I still dont understand why these facilities dont have any sort of catch fence integrated into the wall. Even some of the lowest budget podunk places have them. I'd refuse to race at a facility that didnt take safety serious.

I saw a fatality just last year when the driver's cage impacted a fence pole. Fences aren't always the answer. I do question having large trees close to the track though.

What's not to understand? They're expensive. Tracks don't make a lot of money.

To be honest, we are thankful that the trees were there to slow his momentum. What people don’t see, is that there is a creek/river about 5-10 feet away from where he landed. Had the trees not been there, he probably would have landed in the water. I do believe that the track will be considering some other safety options for the future, but we hold no ill will. It was a random accident. We know that these things can happen anytime we send our loved ones out there. There is no “perfect” or “safe” track when you are doing 100mph+ in any race car. We will most definitely be back to Hagerstown this year! 👍🏼
