Little did they know in 1985 that we would actually be able to watch this piece on a mobile phone in 2018! Is that a Lamborghini Countach at 9.28? - he's moved on a little from the SD1!

With the charges I remember he must own the phone company! Only need to make 3 calls an a months line rental for a Lamborghini, he's got a roller on order for the next 6 calls in!

I had one of these fitted to a 1972 Series 1 Daimler that I owned. I thought it would be useful and quite flashy. Just the bloody line rental was £180 a month, so dear in fact that I couldn't afford to make any calls.

What a gorgeous SD1 at the start. I had a white V8 Vanden Plas back in the late 80's

we had the NMT450 mobile phone system in sweden. Both Ericsson and Nokia made 450 mobile phones. the car versions was the size of a small suitcase. the batterie was the size of a small suitcase but when you connected it in the car you just simply connected the reciver to a connector under the dash. Thanks for uploading this intresting video. 👍👍🇸🇪👍👍

So Austin Rover recommended UniqueAir, eh? Hardly impartial, since both were owned by BL.

Back in the day when companies thought the only mobile ever would be firmly screwed into you car. Rover must have lost a bundle on this one.

Carmakers sold built-in phones until the early 2000's. The higher transmitter power and large external antenna were desired when cell coverage wasn't as good. A lot of people, particularly men who didn't have handbags, didn't want to carry large, bulky phones. It wasn't until the consumer models of the Motorola StarTAC, around 1997-98 did people really carry phones daily. Today, most cars have built-in LTE Wi-Fi hotspots, which is basically the same thing.

BMW bought Rover for the Land Rover and Mini brands. The rest wasn't worth saving. Unsurprisingly.
