Worthy list, Austin! Also PLEASE do a top 10 movies of the decade video, I would love to see that list. Longlegs 8. The Wild Robot 7. Sonic 3 6. Kill 5. Gladiator 2 4. Deadpool & Wolverine 3. Monkey Man (I seem to have connected with this movie a lot more than most it seems) 2. Furiosa 1. Dune: Part Two

This film is absolutely epic in scope and it was one of the best cinematic experiences I have ever had. The Substance has a great message and is just plain fun. I am pleased with all of the recogniton that this film is getting. I hope to see both films nomimated at the Oscars this year.

A few misses like red one, beekeeper, joker 2, road house, abigail and lisa frankenstein. Most movies are released months later over in europe so I guess I will see some of these films in february or so, but I agree with you about the ones I have seen on here :P My indian "John Wick" film of the year is Monkey Man, that was a blast.

Dune part 2 is hands down my favorite movie of the year. I knew the second the credits rolled that nothing was going to top it for me. When I waited out of the theater with my immediate family, I said, "Well, I guess movies peaked in March this year," and indeed they did. I've seen 51 movies from this year so far, and I still want to cram in a few more during the end of year down time (thank you for the recommendations btw because some on your lists I hadn't seen), but so far, my own top 10 and honorable mentions/round up to my top 25 are: 1. Dune part 2 2. Hundreds of Beavers 3. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 4. Nosferatu 5. The Promised Land (I still don't know if this is technically a 2023 or 2024 movie and never know how to judge that, but I'm counting it since that's what Rotten Tomatoes says) 6. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes 7. Heretic 8. Rebel Ridge 9. The Order 10. The Wild Robot Honorable mentions: 1. The Fall Guy 2. Hit Man 3. Horizon: An American Saga part 1 4. Late Night With the Devil 5. Monkey Man 6. Juror #2 7. Land of Bad 8. Wicked 9. Bonhoeffer 10. Alien Romulus 11. Caddo Lake 12. A Complete Unknown 13. Deadpool & Wolverine 14. Twisters 15. Inside Out 2 I liked parts of Challengers a lot. I loved the music and how the tennis matches were shot, but that's about it. I didn't particularly love the story. I get what people like about it, but I just didn't think the individual fantastic parts added up to something I really enjoyed overall. I'd rewatch individual scenes before the movie as a whole. This and Gladiator 2 were close to honorable mentions/rounding out my top 25. I still want to see The Substance, Don't Expect Too Much From the End of the World, Super/Man, Strange Darling, Longlegs, Anora, The Beast, Flow, Kill, A Different Man, and The Brutalist, but I'll only get to a few of them before the year is out, so I'll have to get to the rest in the new year. I especially want to see The Brutalist, but no theater is showing it until next month, which is really disappointing. Oh well. Great list! I look forward to seeing more of your reviews in 2025!

If there was anything to 2024 release, it was the rise of DIY filmmaking and beautiful condensations to the past, present and future of the artform (nearly all of my picks are like this). Far more than any specific film, this year felt markedly different from the decade thus far. A lotta great movies too, far more than normal years for me. My List: Big Ones I Haven't Caught Yet: The Brutalist, Nosferatu, Eureka, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Greice, About Dry Grasses, Grand Tour, No Other Land, The Shadowless Tower HM: Ghostlight (hell yes Austin!), Chime, Serpent's Path, Totem, REFORM!, Kottukkaali, Janet Planet, The People's Joker, Last Summer, Our Body, Menus-Plaisirs Los Troisgros 10. Malaikottai Valiban (Like Furiosa, it feels like the filmmaker smuggled a ton of money outta the studio system. Lijo Jose Pelissery stages superb action and chooses to tell so much character through it. In theory, this would be a great generational myth, but the chances of this getting its part 2 after flopping so hard are near impossible) 9. I Saw the TV Glow () 8. It's Not Me (Leos Carax collages through his life by way of Godard. It's warm, funny, insightful, and honest. What else could you ask for?) 7. Music (Textbook case of audience respect. Director Angela Schanelec uses the smallest possible gestures to such great affect that I broke down. Eternal images, probably will get better with each viewing.) 6. Evil Does Not Exist (Utterly beguiling.) 5. Cloud (LOVED all 3 of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's films this year but existential late-capitalist chiller turned scalper Reservoir Dogs thriller-action-comedy under his perfect filmmaking apparatus was pure euphoria.) 4. Soundtrack to a Coup d'Etat (A livewire frenzy through the Cold War through the lens of the musicians who the US government hired or didn't hire, 2.5 hours has never gone by as quickly and excitingly as it has here. Dense with information, perfectly edited, incredible playlist. Simply adored it.) 3. Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World (Radu Jude's dryly funny takedown of his home country. So many lovely details in the writing) 2. The Periphery of the Base (At under an hour, director Zhou Tao makes the work Chinese labourers in the Gobi Desert by not showing any of the work and turning it into a desert planet. Shots and camera moves that I've never seen before and will live with me forever. Stunning stunning work.) 1. Furiosa (Miraculous that George Miller threw out the aesthetic toolset of Fury Road and still managed to make a painterly, gripping, constantly compelling western. Ever since the month where I saw it 3 times, few days pass where I don't think about or watch some scenes from it. I would recommend it and Fury Road as a double feature, that's how I watch this movie now but it's still incredible.) my #1 would be Caught by the Tides, but I think that counts as a 2025 release. If Close Your Eyes counts as a 2024 release, then that far and away is my #1.
