Some of my friends just don't understand why I love this guy, but really - it's simple; He's not totally a slave of the industry...he's extraordinarily Independent, both artistically, and Intellectually. I've seen interviews with other "Pop Stars", and with the exception of Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Joni Mitchell, and a handful of others - Josh Tillman comes off as someone who has really thought about things...Seriously, and is not afraid to throw it out there - even if it doesn't stick. Ironically - with his distain of the Evangelical Christianity he was raised in... He sometimes sounds like an Old Testament Prophet - in a Good way!

I have to say the same. Plus he has that Noel Gallagher-like talent of taking a familiar melody or harmonic cadence as a starting point and totally making it something new and original.

I love this comment so much. The brilliant tortured drug abusers are always prophetic. I think the prophets were eating mushrooms & other psychedelic plants. Burning bush? Come on now

"We need a culture of substance to be there to inspire people." I am delighted and unsurprised to hear him say this. All artists, all intellectuals, all educators, all people must speak against oppression and truth to power otherwise...they are the problem.

His comment "I'm terrible at being famous" is what makes him so good. He's not out for fame, he's there for the music, and I will take it any day. Kind of person I would actually enjoy having a beer with.

He's so eloquent and thoughtful, love listening to him sing or speak. Though I have to admit I was distracted by his green wrist. Copper will get ya every time.

A man for his time, most definitely. No one I know uses the word "bandwidth" in a sentence. Also that constant facial touching is distracting and so is his voice - nothing like his singing voice. Nonetheless, FJM is more than uniquely qualified to stand at the top of the game in the industry; he's a gem and "I'm just dumb enough to try.." to critique him! Thank you Joshua. ♥

Hate how ACL interviewer tried to pull him into the usual leftist bullshit tropes but I love how he handled it. Graceful and intelligent.

The strings and the horns are the instruments that ask and answer questions, I feel, in the most human-like emotional preciseness. And it's usually same question and answer, "wait, what was that", the strings said and "FUCK OFF!" said the horns.

I just got to this ACL episode on my DVR, been behind on a number of things though, and this is my favourite episode by far. It was the most "punk" thing I've seen in a very long time.

He's pretty articulate in real life as well. Should see other interviews where he's not sick. It's incredible to see someone describe their inner workings so precisely.
