I guy I know deals in a lot of misc "stuff". When I saw the things he bought and fixed I right away thought value. In time I learned that he would not buy anything for over scrap weight. The lesson was for me not to look at the potential of things, but the initial gamble of buying the unknown. Cool video

This is a really great video. It is a lesson that we all have learned without a universal right answer. Easiest decision is to do nothing, ...and learn nothing. Explains why we see so many projects just sit, frozen in place and in time, yard art for decades. Who hasn't tried plan B? Find a second machine and make one.

Worked for a machine shop many years ago welded a lot of cast iron , not comlicated you need a proper precedure, we would put the parts in a big oven over knight, weld some, braze some what ever needed, was taught by the old man himself he went through the school of hard knocks over many years.

I never use starting fluid, never use carb cleaner, i am over 70 years young, many years ago i used that junk burnt a valve in my work truck , cost me dearly been afraid of it ever since, my perkins 3 cylinder sat for 5 years, flufhed out the fuel system before starting it started right up good luck.

I watched the first video but been a while. I would practice on old block to weld it up. See if it was possible. Weld the crack then weld a plate over that. Maybe could help somebody out if there block is kaput. Maybe you should have sourced a couple of pistons. Now you got to buy more junk to fix. Lol. Better the devil you know. Good luck. 👍

That front assy front engine cradle unit is super rare and out of production you might consider keeping it for a bit and put it up as Local pick-up only by the way what state are you in , I would buy those square type fenders, loader rams if available

everyone's going to say re-build buy another engine , you covered that in the last video those engines are like 3-4 K plus then whats into it already makes it not so worth it that cracked block was the final nail

Maybe the idea of welding the block and doing a redneck repair there is not bad. Those Perkins run with anything!

Soemthing I find fruastating with these channels, is that they'll be lile. 'Make your own XXX' and it takes them multiple weeks. They compare just materiel prices to buying it new. And they never include their own labor or even consumables like welding gas. It drives me whacky because it feels its deceptive. Yea. Its cheaper if bought. If you dont value your own labor, have tens of thousand of dollars invested in your own shop and dont cover the consumables. Anyway, thanks for even acknowledging how many man hours are in it.
