I find that “8gb is the bare minimum” is hilarious. I remember being impressed getting a cheap laptop in 2016 with 4gb RAM, dual core Celeron and intel HD integrated graphics. and being ecstatic to finally run Source games at a good res/framerate, really puts into perspective how low the bar is that I’ve set PC specs for myself.

6:05 "This computer is a straight rip off" It has $288 of parts and costs $450. You didn't factor in Windows license cost (legitimate license), nor did you factor is paying someone else to build a computer for you, box it up and deliver it to your house. Those all cost money.

6:11 don't forget the cost of the OS, Windows 10 is at least $100 of that cost if self-building. But yeah the $450 is kind of a rip-off. I'd add $$30-$40 for labor to build the actual PC and install the OS.

Not exactly, but he's got the i5 2400, 8gb of ram, about 1tb of hdd, and a quadro k2000 which uses the same processor as the 650. I just bought the dell PC, I’m new to PC gaming, and I spent literally every last penny I have on that PC, so upgrading isn’t really an option. That said, what realistically would I expect out of playing GTA on the dell. I’m fine using the absolute lowest setting and settling for low FPS. Do you think the dell PC, out of the box, could hit 30 FPS on the lowest settings?

Funny thing, I know someone who actually bought that first Amazon PC, but actually had a different power supply in it funny enough. Lol. It ran just as crappy as in the vid. HOWEVER, that same person then saved their pennies for a few weeks, got a used Ryzen 3 3100, another 8gb stick of ram, and a used RX 570 4gb, and a 2tb hard drive and now has a halfway capable PC for gaming. The problem with the Dell, literally your only upgrade path is the gpu which your extremely limited in as the power supply that comes with it most likely won't have an extra connector for gpu power. You'd have to buy a power supply as well. Both PC's can be capable with proper upgrades.

Retail PC business models are not profitable anymore especially for retail selling. Dell, HP, and Lenovo are only surviving because of corporate sales. With the advent of tablets, cellphones, console gaming units such as xbox, and used corporate PCs, its really a niche business for gamer PCs business, and extremely competitive. Usually when you have a product you built you usually price it at 3 times the money you spent, 2/3rds of that is miscellaneous expenses, ROI longevity(you have money tied to that unit for a long time) and your own time. This company who sold the "cheap" gaming PC (288 - even say the seller has volume pricing from China and bought all materials at half that $144, which is probably why the selling price is at $450 (x3) is barely profitable. The seller who sold the Dell most likely bought the unit as part of a bundle volume crate(total price for acquisition of the Dell is probably $133 adding the video card). As you can see regardless if its the $450 or the office PC at $400 PC - both don't really give you a lot of performance and real value for your money. You can also add the fact that there are not a lot of people who are uninformed. Usually, when you are buying a pc, you're buying mostly for either work use, school, and specially gaming use. When most people and students these are provided PC/laptops to do work and school work, that leaves main reason of gaming. The demographics for gaming PCs are relatively young people, and parents who buy for their kids usually have the kids leading the choice. This business model is dead. A better business model is charging someone $250 and the costumer pays for all the parts -- essentially they are paying for your expertise and trust to build this unit and that they are not getting scammed. Buying parts to build and try to sell for profit just is not worth it these days in the US.
