What's really unfortunate about older games is that there are areas in those games that are locked forever. Older mythical events are basically locked, on-disk DLC.

With the virtual console release of Crystal, they have the event for Celebi automatically in the game, which previously was not obtainable for most people in the world. I imagine they could do some more things like this if they re-release older games like Ruby and Saphire on the switch.

In gen 4 there are two ways to still go to these areas; the void glitch and the dns exploit (also in gen 5). You should check them out because they’re very interesting

Yeah idk when GameFreak started to think it was okay to just throw these things into the games without backstory IN THE GAMES. I do remember they said they gave up on doing in-game stuff for the event pokemon because it could be datamined and hacked and ruined, but that's not really an excuse anymore with games like Sword and Shield being essentially live-service things that can be patched. How hard is it for them to make 30 seconds of animations in the Wild Area for a Zarude event?

As someone who's favourite part of Pokemon is completing the Pokedex, simply not having access to some mythicals that I missed just really sucks. Wish they would either put the mythicals in the game but make them extremely difficult to get and require a ton of grinding, or just do distributions more often. Also please stop with the going to stores to get a code in person that was so dumb and awkward lol and they wont give you more than one code most of the time so if you have both sword and shield for example and you want 2, too bad you only get 1

Mythical events back in the day were so badly advertised. I didn't start playing until gen 3 but I never saw a single ad for any event. Not even the jirachi for Colosseum or the manaphy for pokemon ranger. You'd think it would have been an ad during Pokemon episodes or something. It wasn't until Gen 5 that events were more well known.

If every mythical pokemon was normally obtainable in the game, what would be the point of being mythical? Keldeo is already worthless from a collection standpoint (unless someone really cares about the ID#) just because they made him easily obtainable within the game.

@@Gatchu137 What developers could have done is just make the mythicals way harder to catch. Like even if all mythicals were obtainable in game they could make the mythicals at a 0.0001% catch rate and only hidden in the grass. Like an encounter rate of 0.0003% would make them extremely hard to find in game and would keep them legendary. Maybe they can only show up after you do every single quest imaginable in game + the pokedex+ every quest in the expansion + that pokedex+ 4/5 of the national pokédex completed. Put random puzzles all over the map that all have to be completed by the end of the game. Then at least you can feel accomplished.

@@selena9887 No. You're still thinking of completely different scales of rarity. Being locked behind a secret task that's pretty difficult to accomplish? That was Spiritomb in Gen 4. Having a 1% catch rate? I think a few legendaries are already about that hard anyway, and roaming legendaries appearing in grass have been a thing for over a decade. There are regular pokemon with less than a 3% encounter rate in most games. I think if you want the Gen 7 monkeys in SwSh, they're like a 5% encounter rate in grass only, and that takes like 20 minutes. Feebas and Munchlax were limited to specific tiles back in Platinum, but people still got them. You could make it so that Victini is only obtainable as a wild encounter after completing the SwSh pokedex, can only be found in the grass as a 1% encounter rate, with a 1% catch rate, and the ability to run away. Completing the pokedex aside, that would MAYBE be like 2-3 hours of grinding. There is absolutely nothing that Gamefreak could do to make the mythicals obtainable in game, without compromising their rarity. Grinding for 3 hours doesn't hold a candle to waiting 6 years for a limited time event. Edit: I don't know why you went back and edited everything from "1% encounter rate" to ".000001% encounter rate".

Well, there is only one in the game and they are also version exclusive, if you think about it, making them Legendaries. Because a Pokemon is considered Legendary if: 1-You can't find more than one naturally (Wild) in the game/ You can only get it at a specific moment of the game story. And Starters in Gen one can't be found in the wild. you only receive them at some point of the game (The beginning) 2-They can't be breed in the game. In Gen 1, the concept of breeding was not introduced yet (it only got introduced in Generation 2)Thus Making impossible to get 2 exemplary of your starter in one game (Depending of which starter you picked) 3-The only way to receive another one is via trade or transfer. Since Gen 2 and onward, Every game have it's exclusive legendary Pokemon. If you chose Charizard as a starter, you couldn't get the 2 others by any other mean than trade for with a friend or transfer them from the other games ( If you got 3 consoles and one exemplary of each Gen 1 games, then you were able to have all the 3 in a single game) Thus, because the 3 (4 if you count Pikachu from Pokemon Yellow) Starters Pokemons of the Gen 1, Charizard, Blastoise and Venausaur, meet these conditions, they are technically considered as Legendaries.

In Cyprus is way difficult to get this kind of events. Darkrai, Arceus, Shaymin, Mellotetta, Genesect, Hoopa, Volcanion, Diancie, Marshadow are the only ones we can never get legitimately. At least we managed to get Zeraora, a shiny one too

They have already added the perfect system to distribute mythicals, Dynamax Raids. They add a new NPC you can talk to and they inform you that there’s a strange Pokémon appearing and you need to investigate. Works like any other raid but the mythicals would rotate availability daily/weekly/monthly for either the duration of the event or forever so that someone that’s starts plying 3 years from now can still go back and get them if they take the time. These Pokémon arnt special anymore (if they ever really were) most of the events only happen in Japan or are hyper localized in location and times.

You're 100% speaking the truth, I come from the Caribbean in which I have Pokémon S&S and its very difficult to have a mythical Pokémon from where I come from. In addition to trying to get a fully evolve Pokemon by trading with a friend (which I don't have) I have to look up your channel and other sources in order to get like Zarude the mythical Pokémon. And the other thing is that if your trying to complete your pokedex by catching every single Pokémon, youll find yourself short by not getting a mythical Pokémon which totally sucks.

I like the magearna one because it will always be available. I hope they do more of those so that even if they close down a server, people can still get their mythical. Though this does bring up an unrelated concern of mine. If Pokemon Bank eventually closes down, are all the pokemon before gen 8 permanently locked in their game with no way of transfer?

I wish you could trade mythical pokemon on the Gts , I always have both versions of the game. One year all you had to do was use the mystery gift option every month to download them. It be nice to be able to use the extras to fill out the pokedex

For gen 4 and 5 games you can always do the DNS "trick" to get the mythicals and events from those games. You can also get Victini from Sw/Sh now. The mythicals i have the most problem with are the ones that have one or two distributions like Volcanion, Marshadow and Diancie.

When the Crown Tundra came out I set up boxes for all the legendries and mythical Pokémon, unaware that you can't get any mythic from the Dynamax Adventures. It was really sad having to reformat my boxes because you can get mewtwo but not mew. Also you forget to mention that Pokémon Home has reintroduced the GTS but locked mythical Pokémon out of it so even common ones like Melmetal can't be traded. I just cross my fingers and hope that in the gen 4 remake they add in the event Pokémon so I can finally get Arceus after watching videos of people hacking in the Azure Flute over 10 years ago

this dilemma does effect a majority of players, i just wish that mythicals were similar to legendaries where they had their own in game events. for example: darkrai in DP. i loved that you needed to get a special pass to get it unlocked and you got the chance to battle/catch it. mythical pokémon don’t feel special when they’re just handed to us from QR codes. i think mystery gifts were a great thing when it came to added story content but they’ve really downgraded the fun of the game when you have to walk into gamestop, ask for a code, input it in, maybe battle with it on your team once or twice, then put it back into PC storage. long story short, i want a challenge and an experience rather than a handout.

I’ve been trying to complete my living dex this year and mythicals are the only ones I’m missing but I gotta admit, the ones I have got have been 100% legit... but they required a lot of extra effort and cash. 1st one was Celebi. 3DS Crystal = Easy 2. Manaphy and Phione. Had to search eBay and take a chance on buying a copy of Pokemon ranger to get the Manaphy egg. This one was super lucky because there’s only one available per cartridge of the game. So I had to hope the event at the end of the game had never been accessed or else I never would of never gotten the Manaphy egg. Then you have to send the egg to D/P hatch it, and breed for a phione. 3. Jirachi... oh boy. Had to buy a copy of Pokemon channel, a GameCube, a gameboy advance... and link cable... painfully play through Pokemon channel, there’s a great walkthrough on KZbin which helped out a lot. To then access a legit Jirachi which can be traded all the way to home. Worst one. 4. Deoxys - just play through ORAS. 5. Meltan/Melmetal PoGo and had to buy a copy of Lets GO but easy enough, just more money. 6. Keldeo, Sword/Shield DLC. 7. Zeraora Raids all day long. The rest are gonna be PoGo but not being able to bring them into the game without registering them kinda sucks. Here’s hoping 25th anniversary helps out though. Those mythicals that are out there required a lot of extra effort and in some way, the way I got them was an event in itself. Expensive way to go about it though to just have them chilling in HOME.

Guys, there is a way to get the old events on your dpp/hgss/bw/bw2 games, you can look it up on the internet, it is a custom DNS which links you to a server that still sends out the events, really fun and the pokemon are completely legit

This is really frustrating. I live in Brazil, and the first and last event that we had here that we could go to a store to get a Pokémon, was on White 2 and Black 2. We lost a lot of events, mythical and special Pokémon that were distributed only in stores throughout North America, Europe and Japan. I never got a Pokeball Magearna, Marshadow and a few others. And to be honest, the only reason why I have Genesect, Jirachi, Victiny and most of the other mythical Pokémon, was because I was able to hack them through QR Codes on X/Y. That’s just sad, because I’m glad that I have them, but I know that I can’t use them online or even trade the spare ones with someone who doesn’t have them, because they’re hacked...

I had every single mythical and legendary pokemon integrated into my sun version when it came out. I always took my games with me so my 3ds was always in my car. But sadly, as all good things come to an end, my car got repossessed and my sun game was in the car and I didn't have time to find. So thus, I've had to start over on ultra moon/sun. Things like volcanion and hoopa, I will never be able to get unless they do another mythical event. I cried dearly for my lost pocket monsters.

I started a living dex when the lockdown started. I hit this very same problem. I missed out on volcanion and meloetta. I got lucky and found someone on discord who was also working on a living dex but didnt have acess/funds for the old games and systems. I gave up some hard to get old pokemon in exchange for what i needed. I was later told they were clones of legit events but pokemon bank and pokemon Home doesnt know the difference. Its not impossible to finish, just really hard. Also, the DNS exploit for gen 4&5 helps a bunch for others who need those mythicals

Honestly, whilst I love the pokemon who are myticals, I do not like the concept of mythical pokemon. They could easily just be story beats in the games. We saw this with Deoxys in ORAS.

I disagree as their whole purpose is to be super rare. Having them in the game without events would ruin their purpose as mythicals. Though, I do agree about them locking them in specific countries. If there is an event, it should be available in all countries.

I disagree. While it's nice that pokemon are super-rare, it's also unfair that most of these events are literally one time only. Example, shiny Necrozma, Ash-Greninja and QR Code Volcanion. People who started a year ago would never be able to get them unless they hacked them. If anything, super-rare should be distributed yearly as there are new players everyday and having more of these mythical helps devalue them. The minute these pokemon hold real world value, you will start seeing behind the scene sales which the Pokemon Companies do not want children to get involved in.

I agree with that sentiment, but the mons do get distributed decently often. And a Pokemon player shouldn't be able to get these extremely rare mons if they started a year ago. It's all about waiting and if you miss out then it just means you have to wait more time. Mythical Pokemon are never going to be gone. You may have to wait a long time, but you will always be able to get them at some point. In my opinion it's a good balance between rarity and accessibility.

There was another way to get mew in Red/Blue. I dont remember exactly how the glitch worked but you had to get spotted by a trainer near Mewtwos cave and immediately fly before he reached you. Then you had to cross back over the long bridge in cerulean city (your start button would no longer work IIRC) and then once you reached that same patch of grass you would find mew in a random encounter. It was some weird glitch, probably related to the missingno glitch

I’m facing this dilemma right now. I started playing pokemon on nintendo DS and skipped the 3DS. Just recently I started playing pokemon sword and after doing as much as I can in it, I wanted to have a living dex in my pokemon home. But sadly now it might not be possible since I won’t have about 15 mythical pokemon. I get that they’re meant to be special but it sucks that I can’t seem to “catch them all”

Disagree with the Zeraora event being a "good" thing. Given that not everyone was actually able to get one. If you didn't have (or want) a smartphone you were essentially screwed. They could've easily distributed it to the actual games, rather than locking it behind the mobile phone version of HOME. It would've been more fun if we could've caught it during the actual event instead. And then, we could've traded the surplus 'mons to those who missed the event. So everyone wins. Honestly, I would prefer it if they just scrapped the "event" model, and just let us catch the Mythicals ourselves. Lock them behind story and/or Dex completion, sure. That would be neat. As well as more stuff like ORAS Deoxys and Crown Tundra Keldeo (as well Virtual Console ports unlocking the older events like Crystal Celebi) would be appreciated.

Personally had fun with the 20th Anniversary event but I had the luck of having stores nearby. Apparently the codes weren't well known or that sought after here in Sweden aswell, because when I went there I could ask for 4 codes for all my games without an issue. One time I was even given A WHOLE STACK of the Arceus codes. I could have sold them online probably but instead I opted to hand them out for free on Reddit.

If i remember correctly arceus is the only one that has a model and coding for almost every game but can’t be obtained legitimately because the azure flute in gen 4 was never distributed for being “to hard of a puzzle for kids” so unless you can get an arceus in GO then the only way to get arceus would be from 1: cheating in the flute in D/P/Pt, using it at spear pillar, battle and catch arceus 2: distribution (for instance there was an arceus that was given out that knew Roar of Time, Spacial Rend, and maybe Shadow Force? I don’t remember) Or 3: cheating in the Pokémon itself

Yes, one of the main problems I have with Black and White 1 is that it's impossible to catch a zoark and finish the pokedex without an event Celeby transferred using a special transfer method you have to unlock with a password and talk to a boy or a girl that don't speak who then can be captured if you have a spare pokeball, but only if this specific Celeby is the first member of your party. I don't get it, Zoark is part of the Black and White pokedex, it's not even a national dex thing, so why limit people so heavily?

So to be clear in the gba games you can literally find event codes online to get the mythical Pokémon or else you can use warp cheats to travel to the place where the mythical Pokémon spawn. I wouldn't consider these methods "hacked Pokémon" as such because it's still essentially an organically generated Pokémon it's just not what gamefreak necessarily intended

Back in the day I missed mew in gen 4 because wifi was new and I was a kid. This meant that even though I played since gen 3 I did need get a mew until ORAS which I think was something like 10 years later. Gen 3 events were just totally elusive so I don't count any of those events as you had to have money to do them. Celebi and jirachi was both released at Gamestop in gen 4 and deoxys was distributed a lot compared to other pokemon so I did not have issues with the mythicals other than mew.

Started playing pokemon 2016, so yes, there's a lot I missed out on over the years. I like the idea of rolling time-window events. Every year for example, a short window that you can grab a mythical for a week or month. So you have to pay attention, but you could also get it next year if you miss out. So it keeps it special, but still accessible.

@@panmanafro A lot of events were never even made available outside of Japan, especially back in the Gen 3, 4, and 5 games, which had entire areas and cutscenes for each event, but I wouldn't say that I'm missing 40% of the game. Maybe like 2%, and even then, that's generous. Nowadays, all you're missing is a dude in a Pokemon center handing you a gift, and that feels like 40%?
