The Lakers could only get Demar through a sign and trade plus Demar says he would have taken a discount but he's making 26 million this season, how big of a discount was he really willing to take? I still disagree that the Lakers' offer for CP3 was better than the Clippers' offer. The Lakers offered basically mediocrity. Those players in New Orleans might have allowed the team to win just enough games to be out of the running for the top 3 picks while not being a playoff contender either. Meanwhile, the trade they actually got from the Clippers gave them 23-year old Eric Gordon, who did have some injury concerns, but was still coming off a season where he averaged 22 ppg. It also gave them the opportunity to tank, ultimately landing Anthony Davis. The way they handled things after that obviously wasted the talent they had, but it was still a situation that offered better potential than what the Lakers were offering. For a team that is rebuilding, youth, potential and a full reset that may result in picking high in the draft is always better than mediocrity.
