Wow Junius, if you're into early Australian use of the Spannish Dollar you should look up the Australian "Holey Dollar and" Dump". Mother England had given hundreds of Spannish dollars to the Australian colonies. However, because the 8 Reals was accepted globally, the Australian colonial government's were unable to stop their currency leave the country. So they decided to punch a large hole in them - making them worthless outside the colony. They became the "Holey Dollar" and the punched out centre sections became the "Dump" and was worth a lesser denomination. Then they overstamped the Spanish coins with Australian markings.
