Finally someone who doesnt say he was crashprone and extremly slow, as you said, pastor was very fast, in 2012 valencia, yes he crashed lewis out, but the fact he found himself battling that years mclaren, a very fast car, in a williams which was fast but not the level of the mclaren just shows he was very fast, or singapore that year, front row start next to lewis, but then hydraulics failed, but we all know that crashing wasnt out of his system

you can say what you want, maldonado made f1 10 times more exciting and entertaining... you never knew which driver would be crashed out by him. sometimes he was like a Robin Hood of F1, he stole points from the top drivers and gave them to the small teams :D

@@qui3041 Alonso himself declared he drove erratically and hence received the punishment. The current reg cars are really sensitive to a loss in downforce as they go through higher speeds. The only reason I can blame Russell is for having poorer reaction times, but come on not everyone is an Alonso/Kimi/Max.

George was coming up on Fernando far from the braking zone. George just didn’t approach the corner accordingly

you can say what you want about maldonado, but you won't see any other driver sticking his car that close on other driver's, they all back down and wait for the straights and braking points, not even max is this agresive, and that made the f1 exciting to watch again, instead of the cars parades from other years

The 2012 Williams was totally wasted on Maldonado and Senna. Maldonado qualified in the top 10 at half the races but only scored points 5 times. Senna was slow in qualifying but at least scored 10 times. In the right hands that car would have had at least 3 podiums.

If he cut the throttle the weight of the car would suddenly shift to the front tires, giving even worse grip to the rear tires and thus worsening the spin. Letting go of the throttle is the last thing you want to do.

Maldonado was actually quick but too inconsistent and error prone. Like Hamilton (ironically) said in Baku 2021, F1 is a marathon and not a sprint. Spain 2012 was one of the handful of races where he didn't switch his brain off.

… explanation: being fast, as Maldonado is, gets rewarded more at NASCAR than F1 where consistency and good judgement are nearly equally important, and what Pastor lacks completely. But now that I think about it even NASCAR would be impossible for him: those super thin floor tires are quite difficult to manage, I don't think he can make them work.

seeing these onboards reminds me why I don't watch F1 races anymore but only highlights. I love watching drivers work their steering wheel and fight their car which just doesn't happen on a normal lap today. They drive like on rails and Hamilton wins. I would rather watch a 5min highlight to keep me updated than waste 90min for a race

He wasnt a total superstar , but Maldonado was a good driver. He often cracked under pressure and made mistakes, but he was quick. Unfortunately he didn't have the chance to prove he can be more than a meme.
