When WW3 breaks out; Australia is screwed. We import most most of our needs. When you see made in Australia food it is never 100% made in Australia. We are not self sufficient in petrol. We only have two refineries left and they are only operating due to subsidies from the government. In case of war; how many migrants would side with Australia !

Australia is actually in a DEPRESSION. Per capita it has experienced seven consecutive negative quarters of GDP growth, the first time since during the Great Depression. But it's only going to get worse because there's been no policy or statutory reform, no major bankruptcies (they are coming), and debt defaults (they are coming).

I think your right, im just glad I have no loans or debt, but I do wonder if I should change my Australian dollars into anther currency before it falls more off a cliff, but at the same time with whats going on in Europe and USA ... neither of those seem a good option, but they are still much stronger than the AU. I don't want to put it in crypto thats to risky.

I agree we are in a recession, but I don't really read too much into the strength of our dollar compared to the USD, America is 225 trillion in debt (including unfunded liability's) so it's more like the USD is the best of a bad bunch rather than a true gauge of strength. The other thing I would disagree with is the renewables, Solar and wind are not renewable they have limited life spans of around 20 years and are not recyclable & require large amounts of rare earth minerals to produce along with "fossil fuels" , Personally I believe if we can't burn coal then cold fusion energy is the way forward. The biggest concern with this country for me is that it is a technocratic nanny state , I personally don't believe voting makes any real difference and don't see Australia ever returning to anything that resembles the country I grew up in. Saying that there is one thing that could change our fate but I see zero chance of it happening but that is for Australia to become a republic, and the people have a say in a bill of rights protecting basic freedoms, As I said it wont happen but it's nice to dream. If my circumstances were different, I would be moving to either Arkansas, Texas, Argentina or Paraguay all have different positives and negatives, but they all enjoy basic freedoms that no longer exist here, and the cost of living is cheaper to much cheaper.

@@CarlTravels agreed and they still have quite a lot of industry remaining despite how much they have lost, The thing with fiat currency is that eventually it comes to an end and I believe we are approaching that end, The big problem with that is the ruling elite will replace it with a digital currency that will eventually be linked to a social credit score and obviously that means total control of our lives. I recommend reading "The creature from jekell island" by G Edward Grifffin , Good knowledge to have wherever in the world you end up.

I live in Dunedin New Zealand, I used to live in Brisbane. I also got caught in a housing crisis in 2007....but what is happening there now is another level wrong. I think this government in Australia needs to give land to people, there is plenty of it, even just put caravans on that land with access to basics like water and electricity. That is a start! Enough of the greed, and start caring that families are being tormented in Australia due to the cost of living crisis.

Travel to South east Asia, and you will see how backward Australia is. In Vietnam that was completely wore torn from the end of the second world war until 1975, and yet today, they have there own home grown motorcycle manufacturing, home grown car manufacturing (not a subsidiary like Holden) there own home grown manufacturing smart phones, biggest exporter of coffee in the world, and it goes on and on, Asia is accelerating for the better, whilst we are accelerating in the opposite direction. Indonesia just joined BRICS it's economic status is about to elevate. Australia suffers from A.I. Arrogant ignorance, and as the economy worsens they only double down with those traits, it's a spiral to the bottom, has always been, except now there is massive competition, and with the passing of the last 50 years the global south has woken up, with that, those traits no longer wash!!! For the sake of Australia and it's people I hope that the digging's are not disturbed in price or sales, that's all you got to pay your bills.

Australia needs a good recession. Recessions are needed for a stable long term economy. It is a natural cycle of supply and demand. To avoid recessions, governments print money, causing huge inflation. Recesion hurts some people, but inflation hurts all people. The government and the people have made the wrong choice to avoid recessions.
@CarlTravels
@CarlTravels 10 күн бұрын
That’s an interesting perspective, and I see where you're coming from! Recessions are definitely part of the natural economic cycle, and trying to avoid them at all costs often comes with unintended consequences like inflation, as you mentioned. The key, though, is ensuring the impacts of these cycles are managed in a way that doesn't disproportionately harm the most vulnerable

Most of our roads were built before the car and thus explains a lot of the tendency to be curvy and indirect. Most early cars were very under powered and slow. I don't need a lot to be happy, I just want to be able to live my life the way I want to live, I use to live on a houseboat on the rivers in Germany, I paid 60 euro a month for my mooring , I could of paid nothing if i just anchored it, but i preferred to walk straight onto my boat. I built that boat with my own two hands, sadly when I was stuck in Australia homeless people broke into my boat, destroyed it, and then the police yellow stickered it, gave me 2 weeks to move it (which I couldn't do because i was stuck in Australia) and they destroyed it. I had a compost toilet and solar roof, and an electric engine, everyday I would wake up to swans at my window. it was beautiful.

Its the Cross of St Peter, it means Humility. St Peter didn't want to be crucified in the same way jesus did, so he asked to be hung upside down as he didn't feel worthy. The church of St Peter is in Korcula (Croatia) ,where Carl's family is from.
