Welcome to treasure hunt month!
It's Damian from Australia Coins, and it's time to have some fun hunting for coins (or noodling if you know that term).
There's some exciting news in the next couple of weeks for the coin collecting world, and I'm going to take you through it over the next few videos.
You'll notice that the image for this video includes a treasure map with an island in the shape of a shopping bag. And there's a good reason for that.
There's a new promotion starting over the next week with Australia Post, just like 2019 they have a new series of coins that they're releasing for the letters of the Alphabet.
Now I know some people remember how hard it was to get all 26 coins last time.
Stay with me - there are ways you can increase your chances of getting all 26 coins.
Why am I sharing this? One of the biggest problems coin collectors tell me about is how hard it is to get coins. But with so many coins released all at once, it can be even harder. So I've put together some tactics to help make it easier for you. If you've been watching my youtube channel or Facebook page, you'll know that I've been teaching people about coin collecting for a few years now.
If you were part of the coin hunt back in 2019, you'll remember that the coins were released a few letters per week in the cash registers, then right at the end of the promotion, you could buy the tube with all 26 coins or buy the individual coins.
This time, they're doing it a bit differently. This coming Monday, May 10, Australia Post is releasing the whole lot.
You'll be able to buy the tubes, the individual coins and I understand that the coins will also be available in the cash registers, so you can get them at face value.
So there are 3 options for getting the coins:
Pay $3 per coin to get the specific coins you want
Pay $47 to get the tube with all 26 coins, so that's a bit less than $2 per coin.
Or you can get the coins at face value of $1 in your change.
Now the thing with the tubes - there is also a chance of getting a coloured coin in there. It's a random distribution, so I'm guessing these tubes will sell out fast.
So then next best option is to get the coins at face value in your change.
And that's where the fun begins. Last time, people got a bit stressed trying to get all 26 coins.
But there are some ways to really increase your chances of getting all the coins you want. And it comes down to people you know.
Put yourself in the shoes of someone working at Australia Post - they've been told to give out the coins randomly, so they could get in trouble for going through and looking for particular coins.
However, imagine if there is someone who knows the Australia Post staff well, because they visit every day. For example, do you know anyone who has an online business - eBay, Amazon or even their own website where they ship physical items? Chances are they visit their post office fairly frequently!
These people spend a lot on postage, so can you imagine that they might get some extra coins for you when they're at the Post Office?
On the other hand, is there someone at your work who takes mail to the post office, or deals with the post office? Who do you know that deals with Australia Post in your work?
Now, even better do you know someone who pays their bills at the post office? A lot of folks don't like using online banking, and still rock up to the post office to pay their bills in person. Again, these folks are likely to know the post office staff pretty well and may be able to get some coins in their change when they pay bills.
Or maybe you go to the post office a lot yourself.
Here's what I want you to do....
Start with a list of people who can help you make friends with Australia Post staff from these categories.
Then I want you to contact these folks, offer to buy them a coffee, a box of chocolates or a beer, and ask them if they can help you find more of the Alphabet coins.
Now this just the first part of the treasure hunt, and in the next video I'll take you through how to expand your coin search, plus what to do with your coins. If you'd like to get notified of the next video, just head over to

In the meantime, please put a comment below - what was the best way you've found for coin hunting? You might be able to help other people find more coins!
See you in the next video...

I’m still on the fence with mine Paul - with so many already opened, an unopened one is rarer, but is it going to store ok in the tube long term, and I kind of want to know if it’s a got a privy mark. 😉
