I remember not too long after this park opened, my Dad took me to Wonderland for my birthday. Our family wasn't wealthy and I don't think they could afford everyone to go at that point, so it was just my Dad and me. I went plenty of times after this, including once or twice with the whole family. But that first day with just my Dad (not just the park, but also the bus and train to get there and back) is one of my core memories and I'll cherish it forever.

1985. Super Mario Brother's was first introduced Dario Argento's and Lamberto Beva's Horror Classic ,Demons Aired on the Big screen a alongside Back to the Future. Coca-Cola began going downhill over the new failed product Name, New Coke. And of course, this 🇺🇸 American-nized Australian theme park, open in Western Sydney.

When did this open? I recall making a lot of electrical power boards during the construction phase... the names of 'The Lands' sure stuck... the date not so sure. Might have been between 81 - 83 ? We lived in the South Eastern part of Sydney, so only visited a few times. Last visit they had a tall water slide... I recall coming a gutsa in that with my son near the end. Poor kid.. was terrified of the height!

@@themeparkreconnoiter9787 Thanks for clarifying. Job probably went through the shop in 84 then, being key light and power stuff. Long time ago... much has happened since. Like I say, 'The Lands' stuck, rather strange titles on those Main labels screwed to the doors. Around the same time we had many of Parliament House Canberra boards under construction too. MANY. A far more demanding task... and lasting.

Super Mario Bros was launched in Australia in 1987. New Coke was a marketing disaster but it didn’t result in any long-term losses for the company - quite the opposite actually, as the PR tailspin created it’s own cycle of free publicity. The one event that defined 1985 though was Live Aid (and to a lesser extent Farm Aid). Also I’d argue that Australia’s Wonderland was hardly as “Americanized” as you claim- that would be Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, with it’s Main Street area copied after Disneyland’s Main Street USA or it’s Tiger Island modelled after Las Vegas tiger shows, not to mention Warner Bros Movie World, also on the Gold Coast.

Also in 1985, President Ronald Reagan moved into the White House after he was Elected as President.
