We decided to check out the Mudgeeraba Caravan Village when a major metropolitan newspaper labelled the residents "ice addicts" and "criminals" who are "living in squalor". Is this really Australia's worst trailer park?

The guy in the orange really hit me hard im a 19 year old australian and moved over 7 times in 3 years homelessness is the most scary thing you can ever face having no home to go to can be the most hardest thing to wake upto each day . :( These people are coming together and saving eachother. If only the people with money had the same communal mentality.

People dealt a shitty hand and suffered for a long time, been hurt a lot, they escape and, predictably, come together with others who’ve been rained on too and they make the best of what they have and help each other heal the wounds. I wish them the very best, God bless them.

I didn't see any drug addict, just poor people just trying to survive. Don't judge , stop letting others tell you how to think.

It's easy to judge, when what you are looking at are able-bodied people who are too lazy to work. Some are drunks & druggies - some are not. But look at Bluey. Do you think he works a 40 hr. job to be able to drink that beer all day? Doubt it. But he could be retired or drawing SS/pension. Not sure AU has the same Social Security system we have in the US. On the other hand, Paul seems like a good bloke with a bit of smarts to him. He could easily get fair job somewhere and pay his "rent" with a paycheck instead of a government check, which I'm sure he gets every month. And why does he get that check every month? IS he disabled? A veteran? - Who knows, but he looks pretty spry to me. Here in "handout" America, the 30% who work pay taxes out of their checks so the 70% can sit on their asses, have 8 kids, do drugs, get free food & free housing. Sad but True. On a final note, I have to say Aussies treat their animals quite well. Didn't see one boney animal in this video.

There are people like this everywhere, and it seems like there's a constant war on society's most vulnerable. Here in the US there's always a push to shut places like this down. But the people that live in them are self-sufficient. They're not a burden to the state, and are for the most part good people. Sure the surroundings might not be pretty, at least to outsiders, but for many its the only decent option. Kick them out of here and you have more homeless people, and more people dependent on your taxes. That's it, black and white. If you force any poor person out without good reason, you're a selfish person. So you gotta look at a few ugly trailers inhabited by misfits. Big deal.

@MOS-MHz6 жыл бұрын
I agree but, however they're not exactly homeless as the rent is not all that far off what some pay for an apartment. I lived in my car for about 6weeks until had enough for a rough old caravan then 2 years going from park to park (all while working). Caravan park life is pretty rough and i hated most parks, good thing is i could book another the following week and so on until i found one half decent. Problem is i was astonished how much rent was at these places just to park my caravan. Only way i found a good one was to pay more then i would for a nice apartment, from there saved and finally got out the parks. Now i use those tough memories as motivation to stay determined and never end up back in a park. I will say there is some nice parks full of elderly that are retired, but they cost a fortune and might aswell just rent a decent house.

If you didn't pick up on it, none of em were about feeling sorry for themselves.. Even then that doesnt diminish anyones struggles or situation over another. These kinda people are appreciative of what they got, even though its not the best they know it could be worse yet they're content in their little community. I wouldn't say they don't realise, because they are quite aware despite the shit life has handed them. The whole point is about them standing up to stigma tainting them for what they feel other wise. They're literally representing themselves for the better, not worrying about how bad they got it - dunno how you missed that to bring in what's better and what's not, because that was besides the point.

Being poor and being in the drug community are two different things. I've lived in housing commission and made friends in that street. I met and saw the difference. This place is full of drugs, all they do is smoke cones and every now and again get on the piss and smoke meth.

Sped Limes problem being that these people are why our hospitals and schools dont get the funding they need and deserve. Dont quote me but i read that 80% of australian tax payers money goes to the welfare system. Yes there are alot of people that need this money but come on. Do you really believe alot of these people cant find work. They want to be left alone fine. But dont blame people for not accepting this kind of life style. the public are sponsering people like this they need to be questioned of where the publics money is really going. Keep handing things to people and they want more. Give a kid a lollie what happens they want more. Get off your arse like the 70 75 % of people and make something of your life.

Looks like a good place with good people to me. Rather live there than the city!

What was so bad about that place again? I lost my job and started a new one in another state and lived in an rv park with the wife and 5 kids. You do what you have to do to survive.

Most likely they're the best of people. Strange isn't it...that those who've suffered the most often have the biggest and best hearts.

We used to work at another park nearby about 1988 at Burleigh West. The owner at Mudgeeraba was selling sly grog. We were told that he did not worry about the rent too much as long as the grog bills were paid. I seem to recall some one being stabbed there yet it happed at our park too.

good on the bloke who took the dog away from the abusive owners, and best of luck to the guy in the orange shirt who has been up and down the coast looking for somewhere affordable to live. God bless you all for making the most of what you have.

I remember staying in this park when visiting my brother in 1980 & 81.Use to have a ball in the creek when it rained jumping from a tree into the river and doubling or tripling on a surf mat in the flow from the heavy rain, many fond coming of age memories for me.These people seemed down to earth and nice to me.

Perfectly nice, decent people. The only thing I saw that I didn't like was seeing dogs on chains, but even so... I didn't see any drug addicts or criminals. Just folks trying to get by, doing the best they can with what they have. Nothing wrong with that.

Instead of looking at these people and passing judgement maybe be thankful that you are not in that position, it doesnt take much bad luck to wind up in it at all .

Barry Huffer. Just because you're down on your luck doesn't mean you have to be an uneducated, drug addicted, scumbag. These people choose this life.

I don't think I would like that place, but I would leave them alone, they aren't causing trouble and sometimes forcing social norms on communities to unify them causes crime in protest
