Australia Tightens Student Visa Requirements. Should Indians Worry? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Australia has announced that it would raise the amount of savings international students require to obtain a visa and cautioned colleges about fraudulent recruitment practices amid record immigration. This decision will likely impact foreign students with many Indian students bearing the brunt of this latest move. Reports say colleges are now refusing to accept Indian students. Indians make up for the second-largest group of foreign students in the country so this recent visa crackdown has raised questions. Will it affect relations between New Delhi and Canberra? Palki Sharma tells you.

The average house price in Australia is now 10 times the average salary, this is because of mass immigration (ie international students coming to Australia and flooding the housing market, driving down wages and driving up real estate prices). This ponzi scheme has been hurting Australians (particularly young Australians) and even under the new rules it's still extremely generous to international students (mainly Chinese and Indians).

All western countries except US have that problem. I have done my bachelor's internship in Europe, 1 year of work in Australia, master's and work in US and now work in Canada. For tech/STEM, no country in the world even comes close to US for quality of education and jobs. Housing is issue in Canada, Europe, Australia and NZ. So is medicare. Only in US housing and medicare issues are not there. I had 4 surgeries and regular check-ups in US, before you jump to US medicare expenses. For tech and people in STEM, if you ask me to rank countries in quality of life on scale of 100. USA - 95/100, Canada - 70/100, UK - 65/100, Australia - 60/100 and Europe - 55/100. Australia and Europe have high racism, although Australia has better wages so giving it higher points over EU.

The returns on such an investment will fetch far better returns in 5-10 years than spending on non sense education in Australia 🇦🇺 and save time wasted. Rather stay home and develop skills. It’s a typical opportunistic relationship. Australia opened its doors to international students to bridge skill gaps within its economy. Several Indian students saw this as an opportunity to get permanent residency. Education is Australia has always been about securing permanent residency status for most international students. This does very little to the actual skill bridging but puts a lot of pressure on other aspects of the economy. Universities and their agents have also used the practice of luring students into Australia on the basis of PR pathways as opposed to career opportunities and future growth like what we typically see in the USA. This attempt by the govt is just to show the people of Australia that they are doing something. But in reality it will have no impact in the medium to long run.

Not only Australia, but every Western country should limit access to opportunities for international students and work permit holders from countries with a massive influx. This is a wise decision. Just because India has the highest population doesn't mean that Western countries should allow all of them to enter and potentially dilute their cultural values. I believe Canada should take note of this. While Canada has capped the number of international students, they haven't limited the number of LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) holders from India and the Philippines. It's time for them to open their eyes.

Because of the "reservation" & "quota". I'm one of those that was affected by it. When India starts valuing people based on merit instead of caste reservation, then people will start thinking about staying back. Remove "reservation" and "bribery", then it will be a fair comparison between Australia and India.

@@adittypublications4141 but what's the use of investing "any" amount and study in India, if he/she and her upcoming generation is once again going to be subjected to same cruelty (reservation & bribery)?? I'm not a student. I'm a working parent and I care for my child. I have gone through the exact scenario (although I'm talented, but was refused the seats citing the "reservation" issue). So I don't want the same to happen to my child and thus decided to move to other countries where they treat everyone equally and priority given only based on merit. My previous message merely reflected the mindset and thoughts of students who are thinking about their next generation. Students want to leave India and settle in other countries not just for their own enjoyment. In fact many people (student/working class) are leaving India and settling down in other country are going through all the tougher situation just to safeguard their next generation. India is not going to give up the reservation and vote politics. So it's better to leave the place and save your own dependents. For me "India" is the place where my mother, wife and my son/daughter lives. Doesn't matter if it is Australia, Canada or even Saudi Arabia.

The problem in Australian housing market is the ridiculously high interest rates, international students are hit extremely hard with course prices. Australian immigration is now a revenue raising business, you apply for a visa, they reject it and keep your money, don't even try to a visitor visa, instantly rejected, go visit a country that welcomes tourists, Australia is a no go zone for the entire world. Could say more about how bad Australia is but you get the point already. DON'T APPLY FOR ANY VISA, you just support Australia immigration with funds.

A lot of dodgy colleges are running in Australia with collaboration with those immigration agents. They exploit all possible loopholes in government policies to bring young students from subcontinent on this hope that all their problems will be resolved just by reaching Australia. Unfortunately, this is not case anymore in Australia due to high inflation, fewer jobs and extreme housing crises. These students generally take loans to arrive here and don’t want to leave immediately. This is the worst phase where they are exploited to work on low wages, and longer hours. Depression, anxiety, stress go up and up while they have no support from anyone. It’s neither Australian government or Indian govt fault. I don’t believe this visa policy change will impact bilateral relationships.

Their universities are not that great that people will pay their life savings to just get degrees from their average universities compared to US or Europe or even Singapore ! @@MelaniaRosehigh grade universities are high grade universities any where in world. I studied in one of the most reputed universities in Australia and it was not so much better than NIT in india where i did my bachelors. The only reason 99% of Indian students are flying here is to just earn money doing odd jobs as they can earn in dollars. If someone is really here to study and boost there career its very good but on the contrary countries like Australia doesn’t even offer campus placements like India and the job market completely runs on references irrespective of the talent. So, ultimately the students are trapped in a vicious debt trap and careers are also ruined. What about the students already studying in Australia, and then now the Australian Government has proposed the age limit for 485 visa from 50 to 35. There should be a subclause or grandfather clause so tht people like me who were already successful in India as HR Manager, changed the career from HR to Accounting and did Masters in Accounting with a plan to stay in future for a better education future for my 2 kids will not be eligible for 485 visa. Being international students we have school kids fully for our kids and pay all the taxes....and then too the Aus Government is propsing the age limit for 485 visa. Even generally speaking human being get serious about their carrer after 30, after they have explored running and earning drom their passion. And also if the Aus Govt. Is changing the age dor TR , the PR age is still 50. They need to implement the propsed for new student application, not for the ones who are already here.
