Very nice film. We were on the same voyage. I was three years old at the time. There is a small fragment where my parents can be seen looking over the railing at the 25.23 minute timepoint. We lived in a place called Eildon close to Melbourne. My mother got homesick and we all went back to the Netherlands a couple of years later.

My parents were about emigrate to Australia when I and my twin brother were 6 years old. We were living in Rotterdam and my dad had all the emigration details worked out, sailing with SS Groote Beer. Last minute my mother had second thoughts and instead of moving to an other continent halve a world away we move to a small town South of Rotterdam, 20 miles away. That's were I grew up: Hellevoetsluis. Now I live in California..... Thanks for posting this video!

Just watched this with the kids. They were amazed to see their older generation's journey to a new life. So glad Opa filmed their journey.

Interesting to realise that Chloe met all but one (old Oma) of the people at the coffee at Oma's before they left.

Hi Pauline, yes, I'm the dark haired one on the left :-) We played dammen there in our little corner of the deck. I now play that game with my 9 year old granddaughter! I was 8 at the time of our trip to Oz. I live near Sydney now, Mum still lives, at 96 years old. Dad has died. What made you go back to Holland? Just curious....

@@paulineklopper Pauline, we live in a little town called Oakdale, about 80km south west of Sydney, near the Burragorang Valley, which is the Sydney water catchment. We love it here. I have been back to Holland several times with husband, daughter, sister,(who was born here) and even our granddaughter, over the years. Still have relatives there, but all getting older, and a lot have died of course. I have lived in WA for a short time , in a place called Mundaring, in the hills outside of Perth, so I know where you were. It's a shame your dad didn't find it naar zijn zin there! One day we hope to be able to travel there again, COVID permitting. Right now it feels a bit safer here than there.... Where do you live now? I was born in Amersfoort. 🤗
