Thanks for this incredible video. It never ceases to amaze me how much our City has grown just in my lifetime. Im 8th generation Brisbanite. I miss the stories my Grandad use to tell us about his adventurous walk to school through cow paddocks in Ashgrove (just imagine) and my Grandma pointing out the Ashgrovian houses my carpenter great grandad buit all those years ago to just name a couple. It was like a different world.

Yes, the city has changed a lot, even since I moved here ten years ago. I think some of the long-term residents don't like the change, while others embrace it. Personally, I hope Brisbane continues to become more modern and cosmopolitan, but that it keeps the unique charm it has that makes it special as well.

I think many wish it was even MORE underrated, so that fewer people moved here from interstate. I personally welcome newcomers, but I can see that the impact of the increased interstate migration on things like rental availability and house prices is not great to have to deal with.

Wow…very impressive!….Brisbane is a MUCH better city now…l first visited Brisbane in 1980 and honestly thought it was a dump… bland buildings…few historical buildings..(Bellevue Hotel anyone?)..hardly any trees in the city centre….(l had..in 1974..transferred planes at the tin shed that was eagle farm airport)..however…slowly but surely Brisbane has evolved into the modern city it is today….p.s. bring back the fountain..and some greenery to King George Sq……well done…..new subscriber here!

Thanks Terence, welcome! Word is, they're considering a new fountain at King George Square, but they can't start anything until the new metro infrastructure is completed, as some is below KGS.

@@trevorwilson2966 Have you been to Beijing? For one, the sky gives away the difference instantly! We can still breathe safely in Brisbane, and after about nine years living in China, I'm thankful for our amazing blue skies every day. And thankfully, as bad as our traffic congestion is, I've never experienced a crawl on the roads as slow as I did on the regular in Beijing, and that was years ago! I don't know, maybe it's better now?

Some nice editing. It's a shame to see we've probably come more car dependant since a lot of these old photos. I wish Brisbane never got rid of it's trams (and didn't built that ugly expressway right next to the river)

Your sentiment about the trams is shared by many Brisbane residents. We're definitely far too car dependent these days, but there aren't that many alternatives!

And there’s still more projects in Brisbane; Brisbane Metro, Queens Wharf, expansion of QPAC, Cross River Rail, transformation of Victoria Park Golf Course. With the 2032 Olympics coming up, I hope our state government can fix our current mess of nothing happening, because the government is hesitating on spending money. I personally think that the Gabba remodelling should have occurred, because we need easier access to the Gabba and also we need a larger capacity!

The one that I especially do look forward to is walking to Kangaroo Point from the city via the new bridge without waiting for who knows how long before a ferry turns up. There apparently are some other new bridges, but I know nothing about them.

I think however they approach things, there'll be people not happy with it. Either they go big and get criticised for not sticking to the new approach of being sustainable and mostly utilising existing infrastructure, or they follow that more sustainable model and people criticise that it's not impressive enough. Really seems like lose-lose.
