If you like Aussie Crawl, you’ll love their most beautiful ballad: Reckless! Australian Crawl was part of the soundtrack of growing up in Australia in the late 70s and 80s. The lead singer with the appalling diction is Mr James Reyne, who also had a decent career as a solo artist and an actor. (He played the bad guy guy on the iconic TV mini-series ‘Return to Eden’.) Seriously, check out ‘Reckless’… such a beautiful ballad. Very much a song of Sydney.

The whole band grew up in an an affluent suburb near the best beaches in the state. They surfed, sang, got a local following. The huge live music scene was their playground. This song, is a satire on the lifestyle they saw around them as teens. The artificiality and materialism.

So many cultural references in 70's and 80's Aussie songs. 'Strategically positioned before the midday show" was a reference to "The Midday show", which yes started at midday and was a long running chat show, strategically timed for nap time (so I was told by a friend's dad who worked in TV at the time). Stay at home mum's were the audience.

Australian Crawl were a huge band locally, but I don't think they made it in the US (or even tried, for that matter). They'd only been together for a couple of years in 1981, but they wrote some amazing songs. The mid-70s to mid-80s was an incredibly creative time in Aussie music. Band toured relentlessly and became very polished performers, whether or not they made it big overseas. James Reyne, the singer in Aussie Crawl, still performs solo today.

the phrase ` boys light up` refers to they`ve had a few drinks and get a bit noisy or sometimes fight. lead singer, james reyne, went on to have a solo career. check out songs, motors to fast, hammerhead, one more river and slave. he also did a duet with aussie country singer ,james blundell, singing a cover version of the . DINGOES, way out west - highly recommend that song.

The Boys Light Up to me, is a song that encapsulates the late 70's/early 80's partying on the glittering social scene of Australia's Gold Coast & Sudney as well...virtually every phrase is code and innuendo ... stuff usually hidden behind the party doors, spoken from a viewpoint of young guys (and girls) being the playthings of bored housewives and their businessmen husbands

''and later at the party where all the MP's rave about the hummers she's been giving, and the money that they saved. To her it's skin lotion for his promotion too.....'' It took me to the age of 30 to pick up what they meant be ''skin lotion''. The song was banned in Australia upon release, but can now be heard in any supermarket across the country... The band had a few chances to make it overseas but spent most of their time in Australia and didn't take full advantage of opportunities presented to them. Men At Work were more palatable than Crawl, so they got enjoy overseas success..... INXS, AC/DC, Little River Band and Midnight Oil were determined to break through.

Back in the 90's in Sydney the Andrew Denton breakfast radio show paired up artists with songs for the 'musical challenge'. James sung the Kate Bush hit Wuthering Heights, and his diction was excellent, I was finally able to understand the lyrics from Kate's song! If you can find a copy of the song it's well worth listening to. Actually they released a couple of CDs of some of the songs for charity. If you can find the first CD it has some amazing renditions on it including Jimmy Barnes singing ABBA's Dancing Queen and Tina Arena singing Cheap Wine :) Do yourself a favour and check it out!

Yep agreed .'Oh no not you again' is a fantastic track to hit up soon as you get time👍✌️♥️🇦🇺 So many others, but that's a great second one! James Reyne(the lead singer) is still touring relentlessly & his voice is still fantastic...tho many find the way he sings, hard to decipher the lyrics😁 Footnote: James actually doesn't sing lead on 'oh no not you again'. Guy McDonough does. Rip

Gotta pay attention to the lyrics with that one! The Boys Light Up Song by Australian Crawl Thumbnail image OverviewLyricsListen Let me tell you about my mountain home Where all the ladies names are Joan Where husband works back late at night Hopes are up for trousers down With hostess on a business flight Taxi in a Mercedes drive I hope that driver's coming out alive The garden it is dorsetted That lady she's so corseted She's got 15 ways to lead that boy astray He thinks he's one and only But that lovely she's so lonely She pumps him full of breakfast and she sends him on his way What a sing song dance What a performance What a cheap tent show Oh no no no no no Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up, light up, light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up, light up, light up Silently she opens the drawer Mother's little helper is coming out for more Strategically positioned before the midday show Her back is arched, those lips are parched Repeated blow by blow Later at the party all the MP's rave About the hummers she's been giving And the money that they save To her it is skin lotion For him promotion to That flat in surfers paradise with the ocean view What a sing song dance What a performance What a cheap ten show Oh no no no no no Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up, light up, light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up, light up, light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up, light up, light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up, light up, light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up Then the boys light up, light up, light up Then the boys light up (then the boys light up) Then the boys light up (then the boys light up) Then the boys light up (then the boys light up) Then the boys light up, light up, light up Then the boys light up (then the boys light up) Then the boys light up (then the boys light up) Then the boys light up (then the boys light up) Then the boys light up, light up, light up Then the boys light up (then the boys light up) Then the boys light up (then the boys light up) Then the boys light up (then the boys light up)

Aussie Crawl ? My god, I am surprised you reacted to them. Probably my favourite band circa 1980. Them, Mental as Anything and the Sports. I reckon their best album was Sirocco from 1981. They were very popular around the late 70's and early 80's.

@Dee Pee I haven't seen a single reaction to The Radiators and have requested them a few times. I think they may have a block because of content being too rauchy for americans 🤣🤣🤣 probably need only fans reactions.🤣🤣🤣can you imagine if gimme head was on only fans how many people would be agro at the actually content🤣🤣🤣

James Reyne (lead singer here) and Daryl Braithwaite (whom you did a reaction to as well) combined to form a group called 'Company of Strangers', and their song 'Motor City' absolutely slaps. I heard it on the radio briefly in the shops a few years ago and it drove me crazy for months trying to figure our what it was. Searching for any lyric you think James is singing is basically impossible so eventually I just put on the oldies radio station on the drive to and from work, and about three weeks later, on it came, and by the end of the year it was #1 most played on spotify. Anyway

James is still awesome to go see live, he can play a 2 hour set and every song has been a radio hit song. Between his solo and Aussie crawl albums, his song list is huge.

Saw him live a couple of weeks ago. He played that 2 hour set which included all his hit songs (from both Australian Crawl and his solo career). Even at 64 he is still a phenomenal singer.
