Seeing those dead trees, against the Kalatha Giant at 2:15 should speak to everyone. Victoria is doing a Saruman on the forests.

Time to stop the carnage, before there is NOTHING LEFT! Think of the water catchment for Melbourne, think of the last remaining habitat for the critically endangered Leadbeater's Possum (next step extinction), think of your kids and grandkids. Clearfelling this forest to make Reflex Office Copy Paper is SHEER BLOODY MADNESS. Great Forest National Park NOW!!!

Its criminal what a supposedly advanced country like Australia is doing to its old growth forests when there is simply no need. We have more than enough plantation timber. How can we tell Indonesia & Brazil to stop logging their forest when we're doing the same thing! :(

Clear-fell logging is a Total disaster, and has always been a dumb way of managing a resource for timber. The role of trees in holding soil in place and water retention has never been valued, until after the water and the soil is lost. Arid landscapes that were deforested centuries ago, are trying to be brought back in painstakingly slow progress all around the world. Australia is overwhelmingly an arid continent, and water retention should be a priority. BTW, paper is less and less required in our new digital economy. Read the memo.

We don't need timber products, any more than we need whale oil. Hemp fiber is the strongest fiber on earth. It's 180 day dry land crop that needs NO pesticides or fungicides. Using state of the art technology, hemp fiber can be fabricated into building materials that are far superior than similar products made of wood fiber. Laminating technology can now produce structural building elements that are far stronger than natural timber. Hemp based building materials have the potential to eclipse the entire timber products industry at its height, and also render cotton obsolete as a textile fiber.
