Not in Australia, but there are numerous locomotives overseas, including Garratts on the African continent that outperform the 60 Class. Nonetheless they are most certainly a spectacular engine.

@@australiasindustrialage689 Yes, I know the EAR 59s and the SAR GLs had way more power but neither look as good as the 60. The 59 comes close and the GL is as ugly as sin.

@@davidrayner9832 Fair enough, That's a matter of opinion that you are entitled to, to be honest, I admire the African designs, but I do agree that the NSW design is exceptional. I just wanted to quash the common myth that the 60 Class is the most powerful in the Southern hemisphere.

@@australiasindustrialage689 I don't know that anyone thinks they were. In fact, the 60s were a little underdone in my opinion but that's because they were intended to be a branchline loco. Had they been intended for mainline use, they could've weighed 400 tons on their 16 axles and with a 300 psi boiler, had far greater power. In fact, that the contract was cancelled before the 50 were built tells us they should never have been built with the coming of the diesels but of all the monumental blunders the NSWGR has made, I forgive them that one.
