Relative to the competition of their times, it is Laver. If you're talking about their level of play at their peaks, it is Nadal.

fundhund62 Connors' biggest attribute was longevity: He was in a major final when he was 39. McEnroe may have been the best doubles player of all time as well, so IMHO he is better than Nadal, who has won how many doubles titles? Rod won 8 GS doubles titles and in that sense he is closer to McEnroe but a better singles player. Laver was McEnroe's idol growing up. If it were just singles Nadal is probably better but overall it's Laver.

I always liked how the Aussies from Laver's era were so classy in their demeanor.He and Rosewall, Roche, Emerson, Newcombe all were a credit to the sport both on and off the court.

I have always been a Federer fan, but I will always admire about Rafa is his fight, determination and tenacity. No matter how far behind he is, he never gives up. I wish Roger had a little of Rafa mentality of late.

Absolutely true. And from earlier times, I would add Frank Sedgman, Ashley Cooper, Mal Anderson, Lew Hoad, John Bromwich, Jack Crawford, Norman Brooks and Harry Hopman to your list of credits to the game -- great sportsman all. The only famous Aussie that doesn't deserve such regard is Bob Hewitt. He was a fine player, but an obnoxious hot-head on the court (Hopman threw him off the Davis Cup team because of his tantrums). And now it appears his character was even worse than we thought.
