Honestly now knowing how incredible Aryna has become, this match has become ICONIC. It's a shame it didn't have a crowd.

She could have won this year. Seriously, her draw was nuts with Sabalenka and Halep. I feel like she couldn’t get pass the Osaka mental block but it looks like if she just stayed around longer Osaka would have eventually went away.
@Wolfwarrior2024Күн бұрын
Yup . There was definitely something going on mentally when it came to Osaka . Maybe she allowed herself to be mentally already defeated by Osaka .

I agree I think when she faced Osaka in a GS environment it mentally put her back in the USO final.

People talking about Sabalenka wasn’t that good when she played during this time. That’s rubbish. She was great and almost 23? Serena had lots of slams by that age. Serena is just on a level that no one will ever understand. 39 almost 40 and beating the next generation! Serena is old enough to be her mother! 😂 oh and by sabalenkas age Serena had Olympic gold in doubles, 6 doubles grand slams, 6 singles grand slams, 2 mixed doubles slams and year end championships plus fed cup win/etc 😂❤

Oh please Sabalenka made such a progress in the last 2 years. Some people evolve / develop in their „later“ ages. 23 isn’t old tho.

This was a very impressive victory from 39 year old Serena Williams who was way past her prime. Eventhough Sabalenka wasn't as good as she is now, she was still very formidable. Most people felt she really had a chance in this match. She was even ranked higher than Serena. Am really a big fan of power tennis. Serena, Venus and Monica Seles are my favorite female players of all time. Sabalenka and Rybakina are my favorites at the moment.

Pensar que serena ganó su último sgran slams en el 2017 pero todos sabemos que después salió embarazada y el físico ya no le dio si no cuánto más hubiese ganado.

Where was this Serena during the match against Osaka?
@Praise-Him23 күн бұрын
She was gassed in my opinion. There were players that lost to her and did everything they could to win which took a lot of energy out of her. Also Simona (with her performance enhanced drugs and Sabalenkas power of course. I think she just ran out of gas and was sore. She was almost 40. People don’t realize what her job will do to the body at that age.

Serena was playing with low energy in the first 3 rounds. if you compare her performance in the warm up tournments and that of the AO they are completely different. She was obviously trying to save energy until she was forced to use it against Sabalenka and maybe potapova. When it comes to halep, she was motivated to beat her bacuse of that WB loss. With Osaka she didn;t have the same motivation given that she had won their previous encounter and she also seemed to lose her confidence after she was broken in the first set. The AO was such a missed opportunity for Serena but she still played great nonetheless

Why? She had a baby and aged. Both periods in her thirties. She’s 39 here and beat a young fit opponent that was ranked higher than her. This same opponent now is a multiple slam winner three years later. It’s not rocket science. She made it to 23 slams. She wasn’t going to last forever in peak or near peak condition.
