Thank you so much for making this Video. I just used it to successfully take my power head apart as my line had ended with some leftover line still on one side and one side empty so I needed to get the 6" of line out from that side before refilling.. Followed your instructions and it all went very easily once I got the bump button undone. That was harder than it needed to be but I think I must have tightened it up too much last time I refilled the line. Much apprecieated. :)

I have a FSA 65 which looks like your unit. I followed you instructions, EXCEPT I had to push in on bumper knob to engage the threaded shaft (did not go on like video shows) After assembly and pushing in line, I could not turn the outer serrated knob more than one quarter turn, and that was it. Everything was tight like something was jammed up. Thought about spraying everything with a slippery lubricant to help things along, but wanted advice. Finally took to rewinding around spools and working everything back inside. Trimmer seems to work but haven't used the string bump yet (but it will probably jam up like every other time) Thanks from Covided USA.

I was watching this on my allotment in Welsh weather 😂. I had to look up how replace the line, to help a fellow community member. This helped, but we are thinking there may be a problem with the manufacture of her strimmer. Nothing was working smoothly. We suspect there is something wrong with the mechanisms. I hope it works out. Thanks for the tips. 🌱
@AustralianPaddock3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Does the trimmer sound nice and smooth with no line installed? It could be a number of things, but if its the line, then you can test it without any line installed. An unbalanced line may cause problems. Good luck.

@@AustralianPaddock I currently don't know, I'll ask her when I next speak to her. I think once her husband takes a look at it, he'll know if it sounds the same or different. This is the first INDEED useful Video I found for this task. Thanks a lot. one question: how do I pull out a bit of the line, after it became shorter after some use of the trimmer?
@muckleman3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind response. If one side becomes shorter, don't pull it. That will tighten the line on the spool and prevent autofeed. Just bump it until it comes out. But if it is not feeding, pull it apart and rewind it.

How did you know to replace the line by winding on? It is not mentioned in the Manual. I have, for years been disassembling the cutter head and winding two lengths of line onto the two sections then re assembling the cutter head.
@muckleman2 жыл бұрын
The great guys at Stihl Daylesford here in Victoria explained that to me when I bought the unit. That's why I wanted to pass on this advice to other people.
@alsub55292 жыл бұрын
@@muckleman Thanks, but why is that method not explained in the manual? Also, incidentally, I took the orange shield off, the trimmer works much better without it limiting the length of line. With the shield on, the line is too short and also you cannot see it when doing a vertical trim along a path edge.

The end of the string to be threaded must be straight. Take the slight curve (inherited from the supply spool) out of it and it will more easily go into the inner hole.

@AustralianPaddock2 жыл бұрын
It can be a bit difficult, but I've used a pair of multi-grip pliers and a rubber pad (to not damage the head) and been able to undo it. It can be a two person job. Once it's undone, make sure it is clean inside and and add a bit of lubricant to the threads to prevent future sticking.

The bayonet part of the bumper moves freely from the body, making it impossible to lock it into position ... it should be fixed to the shaft of the bumper shouldn't it? Is something missing, or should I try a bit of lock tite just to reassemble it?

It should move freely once locked in place. If you push it and twist anti-clockwise it will come out quite easily. It should not be tight.

@me77you4 жыл бұрын
@@benny98989 Hi Ben, believe it or not I ended up with the Ryobi. So far I am completely satisfied with it. It's nice and light and has more power then I need for trimming my acre lawn. I only use the low setting 90% of the time. The hi setting spins noticeably faster. A 4 ah battery will do 1/2 the acre but I have several batteries from my hand tools (18v) that fit the trimmer. For me it's perfect but as with everything else I'm sure others would prefer a different brand.
