This is unreal to me; I can't think of any other two related languages that have diverged so far beyond recognition.

It's more like Dravidian influence as many north, central and south Central dravidian tribal languages live next austroasiatic languages.

Vietnamese language before being influenced by Tai Kadai migration to Northern Vietnam and Chinese domination still retains many of the core of the old Austroasiatic language and does not Tones the same as many other Austroasiatic languages such as Khmer Khasi and Nibobar, Nowadays, the Muong language, which belongs to the Viet-Muong dialect, is considered the Proto-vietic language that is least affected and retains the most core.

Munda spreads more Dravidian vibes than "Austroasiatic" ones... 🤔
@Motogpboy-n2o6 күн бұрын
in fact the malto people (dravidians) lived side by side with the Munda people
@Feuer-ks3rr3 күн бұрын
Their genetics also cluster with Dravidians. Their language structure is more similar to Dravidian and Indo-Aryan languages than compared to Austro-Asiatic. Munda languages are SOV, whereas Khasi and Nicobarese langages are SVO (retaining the original language structure of Austro-Asiatic). I wouldn't be surprised if linguists change the category of Munda languages into Dravidian.
