Rob and Sean wouldn't use native instruments and effects, they'd build a self generative virtual modular patch consisting thousands of max instruments they created to be used once only for a 14 hour digital release album on a new audio file type they've encoded thats incompatible with any OS or software that will only be available for 14 hours on a date they're withholding and won't announce when the 14 hours begin.

Autechre fans, how accurate is this?
@basedpencecard5740

@@Eichro Literally all of it up until the audio file encoding. They're known to have enormous custom Max patches, and they leaked a bunch of SYSX dumps for their Elektron devices (with I think they use when performing live). From Confield onward, they really went the route of Max patching, hard.
@Projacked1
@Projacked1 4 жыл бұрын
@@Eichro Very.....What they do with software and machines, most people dream of that. Most, if not all of their analog gear and efx are modified as well, and they know them inside out. They make their machines when it comes to software. Just Ableton to make Autechre music ? lol I wish you LOTS of luck. But I advice you to come with your own unique music, instead of using Autechre as clickbait. Actually I ithink it's quite pathetic behaviour, and electronic music worldwide shows it. They have the machines, but are too lame to even read a manual. Hence, music that is boring AF, minimal stuff that 3 year olds can make,if you would give them the same machines.
@alicedantal7016

@@Eichro Never heard of a "new audio file type". They use Max/MSP since late 90's (LP5/EP7), and they began to build a generative system with it that became the core of their production since, I think, Oversteps. I like this quote : _"Sean Booth: It's like gaming sometimes, trying to guide it. There's some very basic AI in there-I mean only using "if" statements, conditionals, if-the-situation-is-this-then-do-that type things. It's as basic as a game AI, if you look at the AI for the characters in a game, it's just a chain of "if" statements, basically. It's very much on a level to that, really. So playing music on it is about as fun as playing Grand Theft Auto, doing random shit with pedestrians, seeing if you can get someone to run up a wall or whatever. If I can get the musical equivalent of that, I'm generally quite happy."_ www.residentadvisor.net/features/2756

Nice sounds and tips. Autechre have been using Max/MSP for years now building ever more complex systems. The tracks almost write themselves these days. Build a hugely complex system, press play then simply edit and layer the results. Looking at some of their patches would probably make your head spin. Some absolutely amazing sound design on the NTS Sessions.

Pretty sure from the 2013 AMA that they put more input while it's playing than just pressing play though. I mean they also do all those live shows and they don't just sit back after pressing play there either.

I'm here now because the AE sets from '16 and '18 just dropped on Spotify. I've been listening to them for years now, and they're clearly centered around "pseudo-reverb Karplus-strong", which is basically what you're doing here. It's nuts that they morph from dischordant reverb drones to straight chords and back again. I've never been able to do THAT with K/S.

if you dont have sampler and want to try something similar with the random sample offset, just add a bunch of random notes to your piano roll, turn probability down to like 20% for them all and then in simpler go to slice then slice by region and make the regions super high, should start to randomly flick to different positions in the sample.

@callum6224
@callum6224 4 жыл бұрын
Just go to midi effects, and drop in probability, and put velocity after that and do what he does in the video to make the sample offset time skip around in a sampler, or you can use it with anything using MIDI, instrument VSTs, hardware, etc. It’s complicated to explain, but it basically randomizes certain parameters but it’s based on ‘probability’ and not truly ‘random’, but it’s a really cool effect. Just look up a KZbin tutorial on the probability knob, also the arpeggiator + drum racks and ‘random’ midi effects (actually the probability effect might be under midi effect racks or something, my laptop is currently broken so I can’t check for myself but I use the MIDI effects a lot, and enjoy them), if you type it into the search bar itlll come up, but yeah I recommend all of the midi effects for cool and easy to make ‘generative’ music with.

Seeing someone so very easily and quickly throw together what is, essentially, the same elements and vibe of what was so impressive to us all in the past.....sort of takes some of the magic away. You almost pictured them sweating and agonizing for months, surrounded by clippings and reels of magnetic tape, a wall of old-school physical effects racks, half-eaten two day old pheasant, used syringes, and homemade computers being forced to do things for which they were never intended...in order to achieve such uncommon/unconventional sounds. When in reality, it was just clicking a mouse. Some of the shine is gone.
