Fob programing is fine (but when it comes to program the transponder key it's not available

The demo in this video is for a Chevrolet SSR pickup. The Chevy SSR does not have any transponder chips in its keys so there is no such function for that vehicle. The only "key" programming is for the FOB itself.

Do you know where to buy programabable keys?

This feature in the Autel device is to program the (usually) the BCM (body control module / or FOB specific module) to learn the identity of the FOBs used during the programming process. If you're looking for keys to be programmed instead of the vehicle, then I don't have any source for those type of keys. The GM FOBs used in this video and in the session that was done the day before this video was filmed, were purchased off of eBay or a GM parts department. I don't have a vehicle with keys that can be programmed to give a correct/qualified answer to your question. Sorry.

Based on the shape, that key should have a chip. If it's anything like my G5, it doesn't have to be programmed with a device like your Autel if you have a working key. Mine just needed to be started with the working key then started with the new key but it does have a chip. I realize that I may be wrong so if I am don't hate me.

No chip in that key. The Autel scan tool is simply invoking the underlying FOB programming steps. The SSR can’t add a FOB by simply starting it with a known FOB/key again because the key has no chip in it. There are other GM vehicles that you can add another FOB/key by starting it with a known FOB/key and then with a new FOB/key like a 2011 to 2013 Chevy Caprice PPV.

@@RetroCarGuy530my G5 could prove the key the way I described if you had a working key. If not you had to use a device like the Autel. The key fob soon the other always requires a programming tool. I learned something new today. I just bought a ms906 so I was looking for info on different functions. I like your video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

My MS906TS must be a later model, it uses a VCI or USB2 plug. But what must I do with my 2009 Cadillac CTS 3.6 if the transponder battles to communicte. Everytime I come to the car to unlock, I press it many times, like for 3 to 5 minutes before the car unlocks, and if I am eventually in to drive off, the message appears at the bottom of the speedo, "Electronic key not detected"

I just saw your comment tonight. Two or three possibilities come to mind about the FOB issues. First one might be as simple as a low battery in the FOB. It's a simple/low cost thing to replace the battery in most FOBs, so I might suggest that as the first diagnostic of this issue. If the FOB battery change doesn't resolve the issue you may have a bad FOB. In many cars (not all), there might be a port / slot where you can install / place the FOB when it is not communicating with the car (be it from a low battery or other reasons). If your car has that feature, you might try and see if placing the FOB in that location (once you get into the car) at least allows it to start/run the engine without it not displaying "Electronic Key Not Detected" message. If the message is not displayed, either it is a low FOB battery or the electronics in the FOB are not generating a strong enough signal for the car's remote key entry system to pickup consistently. The one other possibility that comes to mind might be on the car side of this issue. The remote key entry antenna might have been damaged. Many cars have the antenna for the remote key entry system as a grid line on one of the windows (likely the rear or rear side window). Sometimes, window scrapers are used on the inside of the window glass where the antenna material resides causing a break in the material making it difficult for the remote key entry system to pickup the signal from the FOB. I'm hoping this issue is as simple as replacing the FOB battery.

when I try to program a key, the read button does not appear, only the ok and exit button; Do you know how I can do so that the read button appears and I can get the VIN? Thank you!
@RetroCarGuy530
@RetroCarGuy530 Жыл бұрын
After selecting the "GM" module, I click on the "Automatic selection" button which is where it presents the [READ] [OK] [ESC] buttons. There's nothing special to do to get the [READ] button presented. If you're using a different diagnostic module (different vehicle manufacturer) that module may not support automatic reading of the vehicle VIN (but most should support it).

The Autel MS906TS is the high end version of the MaxiSys 906 family of products which include the VCI module and TPMS support. My MS906 is the base model. Since you mentioned you have the MS906TS, I would assume you've already scanned all subsystems in the vehicle to confirm there are no DTCs present that might be contributing to this situation. The first easy/cheap thing to try is a new/fresh battery in the FOB. Some FOBs consume batteries quite frequently or the FOB could have had its buttons pressed (by accident - while in a pocket or in a drawer) causing the battery to become drained to a level below where it can provide sufficient power for the FOB. I'm not sure if the MS906TS has a FOB tester app like the Autel TS601 device has, but if it does use it to confirm that a button press on the FOB results in a signal transmission from the FOB. Most vehicles with passive entry systems will have some sort of location in the vehicle (in the dashboard or center console) where you can place a FOB (with a low battery) so that the FOB can be accessed / verified for use with that vehicle. You should check your owners manual for that feature (if present in your vehicle). If you have such a feature in your vehicle, place the FOB in that location when you enter the vehicle to see if that eliminates the "Electronic key not detected" message. The antenna used by the remote entry system can sometimes become compromised (if located on a window - inside). This could reduce the ability of the vehicle to properly receive/detect the presence of the FOB or a button press on the FOB. Many times, the antenna for the FOBs (remote keyless entry system) is located on the inside of the rear or rear side windows. Look for a cut or imperfection in that antenna material. The last possibility is the FOB itself could be in the process of failing. If you have a second FOB for the vehicle, test it with the vehicle to see if all of the same symptoms are reproduced. If the same problems occur with the second FOB (test without the first FOB out of range of the car) then the issue is located somewhere within the car. I hope something mentioned in this reply helps you with your problem.

The functions available for a specific vehicle can vary from what I show for the Chevy SSR in my video. I have an active update subscription for my MS906 device so I have the latest software downloaded from Autel. The key fob programming function was made available in the Autel provided GM software on this device beginning with V11.10. You may want to go to screen number two and invoke the "Function Viewer" application on the MS906. In there, you can select the "Brand/Model/Year" to see what features are supported by the MS906 for each specific vehicle. For the Chevrolet/SSR/2004 selection it shows a "Remote Function Actuation" / "Special Function" / "Program Key Fobs / Above GM_V11.10". I hope that helps.
