In this video, we will have a look at the various version of available lab filterpresses in our portfolio.
First of all, we will answer to this question:
What is a filterpress and what is used for?
A filterpress, is an industrial machine whose purpose is to perform a solid-liquid separation - called dewatering.
In particular, filterpress is able to filter suspended solids (and not dissolved solid).
So, basically, a filterpress has one input and two outputs.
The input is represented by the slurry to be filtered (which is a liquid with a certain percentage of suspended solid) and the two outputs are:
-NUMBER 1: the filtered liquid
-NUMBER 2: the residual solid (called residual cake).
Of course, the residual cake will not be 100% dry, but some liquid will be retained inside the cake itself.
As much will be the dryness of the residual cake, as much the action of the filterpress is efficient.
In some applications is not possible to dewater the slurry as it is, but some chemical or physical treatment are required to prepare the slurry to be filtered with the filterpress (for example coagulation or flocculation).
What is the difference from LAB filterpress and an Industrial Filterpress?
There’s no difference between a LAB filterpress of LAB200 or LAB300 series and an industrial filterpress.
The same features, optional and filtration system of an industrial machine are installed in a LAB filterpress station.
The only difference is in the automation: most of the time an industrial machine has an automatic system to close the hydraulic cylinder and to open the process valves and the filtering plates after filtration. In LAB filterpress these operations are manual.
Who should be interested in using LAB filterpress station?
There are several applications in which you can use a LAB station:
-R & D departments who want to study different dewatering process for their slurry
-R & D departments of company that already has industrial filterpress but they want to optimize filtration cycle, for example evaluating the efficiency of different kind of clothes, or different process steps (for example with membrane squeezing, cake blowing or other)
-Universities, laboratories or material research center, to test and develop new methods of production of innovative materials or innovative production systems
-Micro or small-scale slurry production to be efficiently dewatered, instead of wasting money on sludge or slurry disposal without dewatering before disposal.
-Construction of lab-scale plant in which a filterpress is required: before building a full-scale treatment plant, a LAB scale filterpress is the ideal solution to analyze the results obtained using small volume of slurry instead of big quantities.
What is the volume that can be processed with a LAB filterpress equipment?
This value depends in general with the kind of slurry and the dry solid content. As a preliminary value, these units can process from 2 liters batch volume up to 200 liters of slurry each filtration cycle.
Our unit can install from a minimum of 2 plates - size 200 mm per 200 mm (in case of LAB200) to 30 plates size 300 mm per 300 mm (in case of LAB300).
What is the minimum requirement to use a LAB filterpress?
First of all, as you certainly already know, every filterpress needs a feeding pump in order to feed the filterpress with the liquid to be filtered inside the filtering plates of the press itself.
This pump is not a common pump, but is an high pressure pump which needs to reach a pressure of about 12 bar, because the filtration with a filterpress can reach easily 12 bars of working pressure.
Most of the time, if you stop the filtering pressure at lower value for example 6-7 bars , unless you have a membrane squeezing system as in some of our models , you will obtain a partially dewatered exhaust cake. This means that you don’t obtain the lowest humidity possible in exhaust cake (also called residual panel).
So, at least, you need an high pressure pump to feed filterpress with slurry. You can choose between our pumps ore you can provide it on your own.
What is the difference between all the version of LAB filterpress?
The first important difference is that basically you can choose between complete station or stand-alone filterpress.
In stand alone filterpress only the filterpress is supplied; instead in complete stations, we provide filterpress, pump (one ore two) and other equipment all mounted in a supporting skid.
