Having the ease of dropping the height of the car by just removing the washers was a nice touch and really saved a lot of time and filing. The wands are also used for there coal cars to remove loads too. Nice invention by them

I used to see these at least daily... on long freights, peddler runs, and single grain hopper deliveries. I've a picture of one "flying" past my street. I grew up in Rice Lake, WI. Saw DMIR, DWP, UP, MKT locomotives as well as CNW... and usually SD45's, SD40-2's, and GP-7's. Soo Line also had a stub in town, but there was more to its history as well. It's a nice looking caboose... glad you noted the "Type E/F" coupler knuckles and the axle end generator detail. John

I still remember the Model Railroader magazine article about them back in the 80's... It showed the various International and Thrall variations and how to model them from Athearn blue box bay window cabooses. How far we have gone!!!

Great review as usual Dan! I picked up one of these (Rock Island) and I really like how they have a capacitor to keep the lights going over dead track. I think capacitors are a necessity in cabooses and small locomotives. regards, NS.

I was among those commenters hoping for Tangent to do these cars. Happy to report I have one on the way.

Dan, great review of a nice looking caboose, when we lived in the Chicago area for 15 years, there were still a lot of these cabooses around the city, as they were used on industrial switching jobs. I had modeled a pair back in the day to use on Powder River coal trains with my Union Pacific equipment.

$125 for a lighted caboose with all the correct detail is a bargain compared to the factory painted brass that is out there.

Looks good, Dan. I do like the wand system although I don't have any Tangent cabooses.

This car from another reviewer failed it miserably. It had some body wobble. Thanks for the review Dan!!!

Nice video! Was the light on this caboose was sufficiently bright?

Consider it a pool caboose. There’s info out there about it, I’m sure some CNW cabeese have made it over donner. If not, like you said, use your modellers license!

That one seems a bit bizarre for an SP fan! I assume some went to UP eventually which took over the SP in 1996? I would love to own a Tangent caboose but unfortunately they don't make anything for a Rio Grande fan, or an SP fan for that matter (I grew up with the SP in my backyard. As it is my collection is very large and am close to retirement now and trying to justify what I have and am now selling off some models to thin the herd. C&NW is just too far out for me. Tangent does make some nice stuff and I am a big fan - I just need to a a little more picky about what I buy now.

Well I'll through in my 2 cents and say at that rate that theirs nothing wrong with having a standard toggle switch on the underside of the freight car as long as it lowers the overall price of it.

Itd be dangerous if Tangent ever did SP cabooses (itd be nice to have the magic wand for those)

and they have fallen. from the perfect BN caboose to this.
