I am Franco-Italian, I have visited Algeria many times. It is my favorite country in the Maghreb (North Africa), and probably in all of Africa. This country is so huge, the largest in Africa, and the Algerian people are surely the most generous I have seen in all my travels around the world. Algerians have this unique generosity, and above all sincere because totally disinterested. It's not like in Morocco and Tunisia where they see tourists as dollars on legs. This is a fundamental difference with these neighboring countries and even the rest of Africa because in Algeria, people see tourists as guests, not as dollars. And as a tourist I find it pleasant. The country is magnificent, the reliefs and landscapes are breathtaking. I enjoyed each time I went to visit Algeria. I learned a lot about the history of Algeria. A multi-millennial people with a strong history. For example, I was very surprised when I discovered that Algeria was the country which helped economically, financially, mentally all oppressed countries and people. I did not know that it was thanks to Algeria that the Aparteid regime of South Africa had been sanctioned thanks to the intervention of Algeria during a famous speech at the UN. I did not know that Nelson Mandela had received the support of the Algerian people during the Aparteid. I did not know that founding American members of the Blacks Panthers had received support from Algeria, which welcomed them, subsidized them, opened their doors. I also discovered that at the time, Presidents Kennedy and Nixon had received at the White House, the Algerian Presidents of the time (see French documentary on the youtube channel "Arte": Algiers, Mecca of the Revolutionaries " ). I learned a lot about Algeria, its history, its people, its many ethnic groups and cultural riches, its culinary riches, their hospitality and generosity unique in the world, the grandiose landscapes. A country with 4 seasons all year round. I recommend visiting this beautiful corner of the world, throw away all your prejudices, clichés and stereotypes and go there with an open mind, and there you will have an authentic experience. Travel builds character and opens the mind.

The architecture is actually not ottoman but zirid , there was first a Roman / Numidian city , than then came the ziride (indigenous Berbers amazigh ) who built the city of Algiers the casbah and some castles) than the ottomans developed some castles and with other ones in the same architecture as the zirides one then came the French occupation and they added balconies and windows and took off pools and also put ceilings I don’t know why everything is linked to Ottomans when it’s not the case😊
