Cape Town, March 8 - While South Africans must not forget the heinous crimes Dirk Coetzee committed during apartheid, he should also be remembered for blowing the lid off the monstrous secrets of the covert Vlakplaas police unit. That's the message from Jacques Pauw, the author of three books exposing the murders committed by the police hit squad, which Coetzee co-founded and commanded in 1980. Pauw insists though, Coetzee was a mad man.
