*correction (1:10) in 1998 Elliott Carter actually turned 90 years old. (Mark says he regrets the error and added that Carter's mind was exponentially sharper at 90 than his is at 58 🤣)

As a life time citizen of Cleveland, Ohio, this video makes me want to dig into my city's history. I feel like it's easy if you are not from the big famous cities, New York City, LA, Austin, Nashville, to not realize how much good music comes out of the city you find ordinary and how important that music can be. I call dibs on writing the book on Cleveland's music scene :)

Please do it! I’m sure it’d be fascinating.

Here in Cleveland we have: Albert/Don Ayler (+Bobby Few) Tadd Dameron Joe Lovano Abdul Wadud Eddie Baccus ..to start a list! Also, Case Western University does a wonderful job of documenting Cleveland’s cultural records.

I recently graduated from the UIUC music school. I'm still living in Urbana and I second the idea of commissioning some sort of anthology of all that UC has produced musically. Great interview I particularly love "making a living from music is different than making a life from music".

Hey Sam- I loved what Mark said about that, too. Congrats on graduating from UIUC.. I miss that place!

Now that live music has become a thing ahain I'm sure just he's pivoted his focus back to performing. I sure miss his content though
