Robert Lee Frost (March 26, 1874 - January 29, 1963) was an American poet. His work was initially published in England before it was published in the United States. Known for his realistic depictions of rural life and his command of American colloquial speech, Frost frequently wrote about settings from rural life in New England in the early 20th century, using them to examine complex social and philosophical themes.

Thanks for posting. I have watched the Voices and Visions series probably ten times over on PBS. This one and the William Carlos Williams episodes were I think my favorites, but they're all great.

You're much welcome. My favorites are the ones on Plath and Pound, but I like them all too. I have just one more to add (Wallace Stevens) and they'll all be on YT

@@AuthorDocumentaries A thought experiment: The Grand Canyon in Arizona may be wonderful, beautiful, and awe-inspiring. But, hypothetically, without a trial, or road, or beaten path- with a nearly impossible way to reach it...it's great value may be re-measured. I discovered Voices and Visions back in the 80s when they were first broadcast. You have done a wonderful service to humanity in posting these episodes, whether or not you have ever written poetry yourself.

I've looked for this documentary for years just to find Frost reciting "Never Again Would Birds' Song Be the Same" at the end. It's the only time I've ever found his own reading of it, and all of the other examples never do it justice. I love his emphasis and phrasing.

"Voices and Visions" has a site online where you can view all of the documentaries that were produced in 1988 and that include this one about Robert Frost.

Professor Jay Parini wrote a bio of Frost entitled ROBERT FROST/a life, 1999, which I read in 2004 and really enjoyed. Parini admires Frost openly but is critical of him when he feels he should be. He also appeared on an installment of C-SPAN's "Booknotes," available on KZbin, and discusses his book with Brian Lamb. Parini is a Frost expert and his mind overflows endlessly about every aspect of Frost's life. It's well worth seeing.

Love many of Frost's poems, but the man himself grates.

100% with Richard Wilbur. Critics infusing Frost's personal life with his writing and their psychological palm beatings adulterate his art.
