Nixon released his tax returns when he was being audited so it makes people raise the question; "what is he hiding?" I honestly can not and do not see him as our president. Yes he is good with money due to him being a businessman but he has no experience in the area of politics. A majority of Americans may not trust the government and Donald Trump is quite the patriot that symbolizes this. What he doesn't symbolize is exactly what we want. Not the other way around. He needs to understand that a president is not the person calling the shots. It's the Senate. He could attempt to make his policies into one of our laws but Congress can veto it. Trump would be a part of the three branches of government, not the one ruling.

Replace the word 'authoritarian" with the word "paranoid". Isn't this Hitler all over again? God, I hope this isn't Hitler all over again.
@sassysudz18 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your thoughtful input, truly. Hitler was paranoid about the Jews, but what are your thoughts on Obama vilifying guns? The day after the shooting, Hilary vilified the guns, saying had there not been such easy access to guns, this incident wouldn't have happened; vilifying American citizens civil rights to bare arms causing division within the country. Trump's speech was one of vilifying Isis, the group the killer pledged allegiance to in his 911 call; this unites American citizens because every citizen has access to weapons. However, I realize the shooter was an american citizen, born and raised, but he had been previously investigated by the FBI... why? Because they were concerned about his affiliation - however loosely it was - with Isis. I'm also curious as to why other countries have closed their borders or not accepted ANY Syrian refugees what-so-ever. "German Chancellor Angela Merkel has condemed European countries for “unilaterally” closing the Balkan routes for refugees. Hungary responded by building a razor-wire barrier on its border with Serbia, and later with Croatia after having 3,000 migrants and refugees crossing into the country in one day last year." And according to the ConservativePost (2015), "Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain (...) have not taken in a single refugee from Syria". Of course, this is a one sided single website and I haven't done any formal research, but this is what I've known to be true for months and months by now. So, because the American shooter pledged allegiance to Isis, Isis practices sharia law which extremely inhumane and unsympathetic, and because Sharia law has it's roots in the middle east, people who practice Sharia Law are Muslim, Muslim people are targeted for their religious beliefs because it proves time and again that this is a problem is reality and not perceived. Other peaceful countries have been hit by people claiming allegiance to Isis as well as our country, so we need to protect our American people from people like this and people who could possibly be linked so we are safe. People are paranoid about guns, but the situation related to Isis needs to be taken care of or more people will be gunned down and killed due to Isis.
@EfHaichDee8 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Herrera Actually, the shooting in Orlando was a homophobic attack. And that guy was clearly disturbed. There was a similar incident in Australia with a paranoid schizophrenic man (who really should have been in an institution) outside a Lindt Cafe which the media tried to pass off as being ISIS related. The fact is that these people (even the drug-addled psychos who are part of ISIS) are doing what they are doing for reasons that have nothing to do with any religious or racial background. I think it makes sense that restricting civilian access to guns helps prevent gun violence. If people don't have guns, they can't use them. I can understand the national security perspective - theoretically, if war broke out, having a populace that are all gun trained and have arms would seem like an advantage - but realistically, all the metal that would be used to produce ammo would be reserved for the military during a war, and in the meantime, civilians are having to suffer the consequences of essentially any crazy random having a gun and being able to use it essentially whenever they please. Also, given the size of most civilian populations, we don't really need guns to overthrow our governments anymore (should they choose to become uncooperative). There just isn't any really sensible reason for people to carry guns today, unless they work in law enforcement or want to commit crimes. Regarding the refugees - this is an incredibly complex issue. Most of the terrorists in Syria are foreigners - Turkish, Saudi Arabian, Qatari, Kuwaiti etc. There is an Islamic turf war that has been started since Iraq because a power vacuum has formed with the downfall of Sadam Hussein and the US cannot afford to keep their troops in the region just to maintain order. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell a person's country of origin or ethnicity just by looking at them. The fact is that the Middle East is a mixed bag (my mother's side of the family are all blonde and blue eyed - go figure). As such, inviting refugees from Syria into a European country does pose a significant risk - it's impossible to be certain who exactly is getting in. Countries which do not have the resources to deal with the potential threat are likely to take the easier option of simply closing off their borders. Keep in mind that refugees often also place enormous strain on a country's resources for the first generation even without the security risk. Please note, I'm not condoning the behaviour of these countries, but I can understand their logic even if I don't agree with it. My family is from Jordan originally, and we've well and truly OD'd on refugees, whether it's from Palestine, Iraq, or now Syria, and it doesn't seem to have brought us too much harm. Mostly just an inconvenience, which is a small price to pay to help a fellow human in need.

+Tom shaw Yeah, ammendments that were written like 400 years ago. I think the world has changed since then. You might want to check crime statistics in countries where it isn't so easy for civilians to carry weapons and compare that to the US. Carrying a gun might make you feel safer, but the numbers suggest otherwise. I live in Australia, have never even seen a gun in my life and don't even know of anyone who owns a gun. We're hardly overrun with violent crimes especially compared to the US. Let's be honest though, this isn't about safety. Allowing civilians to carry guns is practically part of the American identity. It's difficult to change long-entrenched laws in a nation which has integrated the firearm into its fundamental cultural identity.

The libertarian ideal is known as “trickle down economics” and is also used widely by the Conservative party, who are on the lesser side of the authoritarian right. You do know that every modern Occidental Constituion implies limitations of personal freedom in order to achieve social security, right? Every modern State which bases its existence on Constitutions, laws and other rules limits the liberty of its citizens. Maybe you're looking for something different. I'd say the problem is the amplitude, the intensity with which the State limits the freedom of its citizens. Too much freedom brings chaos and insecurity. Too much captivity/restrictions prevent dynamism, growth, happiness and well being. In my opinion, States should regulate such intensity according to the present political, social, economic and international situation. Doing such a thing in a correct manner is a hard task and it's not easy for anyone. This might explain why some leaders act in an exaggerated way. Trump isn't necessarily doing good or bad, but he's the outcome of a value crisis.

That's the worst comparison. Do you think Germany was dragged through turmoil as a result of capitalism? Germany was paying for reparations without even having fixed itself first, a problem which is not at all linked to its economic philosophy. Soon after the war West Germany and later Germany as a whole has become and continues to be a beacon of capitalism. The moderate right has been on the rise in western societies economically speaking for a long time. This has nothing to do with fascism, which is in fact mostly contradictory to right wing economics as it's largely socialist in its economics. At the same time western countries have become more left socially. It's more complicated than purely left *or* right and 'capitalism bad, socialism good!'. Simplifying the issue to justify your own politics is just pointing blame around.

Russia is authoritarian, China is authoritarian, Iran is authoritarian. I don’t understand why they are pushing this narrative based on simple rhetoric alone. Trump is not authoritarian. I think the American people saw the open border policies of the European Union at a time before our elections took place. There was one candidate that wanted to follow the EU and there was another one who didn't. Call it fear or whatever you want but the amount of Islamic terrorism in Europe due to their open borders were happening once a month. The contrast was clear. The vote for Trump was easy. The European politicians were not defending the safety of their countryman but rather be politically correct for fear of backlash and inability to get reelected. The federal government is responsible for protecting it's citizens and that is why BREXIT happened. That is why Trump got elected. That is why nationalism is rising because globalization only benefits global investors, multi national corporations and the ruling class. All while forgetting who put them all in power, the peasants.

Kyle Reaves You are correct in stating Trump is not a philosopher! He is not, however you are incorrectly identifying his form of rhetoric or his rhetorical socio reasoning style as "sophic", of which I am trusting your usage to be the negative connotational implication as essentially condensed to that of he being a "blow hard", and not the Socratesian era meaning someone who is scientifically inclined toward thought, knowledge and reason. Trump consistently demonstrates a surprising trait we do not often see in any world leader, and yes, Trump now qualifies as a world leader. It would surprise many to realize or more appropriately, "come to the realization" Trump is living, not acting out, but living ethos, pathos and logos. My point is: Trumps approach appeal to iterate his political concepts to a mass audience is raw, but not so raw that he is not understandable. Even more surprising is Trump is an "egalitarian"! Yes you read this correctly. Trump is not only egalitarian, he is also classic libertarian de pensee et d'spirit. Mr. Obama on the other hand routinely demonstrates classic characteristics leaning toward mild to less lenient sophism as he continually rails on and on in his public addressing issues as self serving and attempting to build confidence in his audience in his failed attempts at disguising worn out communistic dogma for enlightened thought on mission for equality by attempting to champion the underdog. Trump is who he appears to be as he acknowledges his shortcomings and owns up to his indiscretions. Obama on the other hand is one of many, many undefinable flowers from the garden of good and evil. Naturally Obama is attracted to those who fulfill his requirement for indulgence in self-gratification, esteem building and living blind to the eye of which is reality.

u should take shrooms and reread what you wrote hahahah jesus man get a grip
@ACGreyhound047 жыл бұрын
Shawn Brown - Leaving aside your dubious comparison to Obama, I see two glaring problems with your philosophical analysis of Trump. First, you claim that “Trump is living, not acting out, but living, logos, pathos, and ethos”. Only one of those is true. Trump is the truest embodiment of Socratic pathos (emotion/impulse) that I have ever seen in an adult. He has very little, if any, grasp of the moderating logos (logic/forethought) and certainly none of the balance required of ethos (morality/character) that Socrates considered ideal. Secondly, you say that “Trump acknowledges his shortcomings and owns up to his indiscretions.” This contention is patently absurd, since it should be obvious to even the most casual observer that one of Trump’s most infuriating flaws is his shocking inability to accept responsibility for any of his mistakes, constantly passing blame on to others, or attempting to minimize his errors. I think the reason that some people might think that Trump “is who he appears to be”, and be attracted to this, is that they see Trump’s complete lack of shame, and confuse that with earnestness or honesty. Trump might seem to be a “straight talker” because he will never, ever back down from anything he says, no matter how verifiably wrong it may be, thus leaving an initial impression that he is forthright, simply because he can lie without the pangs of guilt that cause most people to back off on statements they know are untrue. Whereas other politicians might train themselves to suppress their conscience or justify untruths, Trump is entirely without conscience, so there is nothing to suppress.

Why would they put Nixon's picture up there as opposing integration? Nixon never opposed integration. Nixon initiated affirmative action.
@thechasescene47178 жыл бұрын
Nixon was afraid (literally) of the people. Back then we protested against wrongs. The Vietnam war, civil rights, etc. Chris Hedges tells of a time when the White House was surrounded by tour busses in order to keep protesters at bay. Nixon told Johnson he was afraid they would be killed. He passed a lot of laws (bills) as did Johnson out of fear. Mr Hedges says this is what the American people have lost. Instead of our government fearing it"s people, we now are in fear of our government. A bad place to be for any productive civil change. They now rub their misdeeds in our face as if to say "what you gonna do about it?" Nixon resigned for Watergate. Now we watch, as a should-be convicted felon, who's crimes make Watergate look like a college prank, is likely to become our next president. They are trying to divide and conquer, and until we can join together ( whites, people of color, Christians, Muslims, police, etc., etc., etc.) and once again put the fear back into them (They work for us) we will get nothing but what the Central Bank feels we deserve. By the way, Nixon took us off the gold standard also. Sorry for the rant! I truly thought things were going to change for the better 7 1/2 years ago. I'm bitter. Check out Chris Hedges. He now has a show on RT

I agree totally with what you said. People don't protest anymore. Too many people have just a horrible attitude toward voting in general. Some people have literally told me "ITs a corrupt system and by even voting your validating it"......I mean come on. Only one thing though I tend to be very sceptical of RT, thats Russia Today. That channel is a channel published by the Russian government for foreigners. I've watched a few of the historical documentaries on RT and they seem like revisionist history.

I don't think that's the case, as it's looking pretty likely Trump will lose in 2020, and Republicans will want to avoid electing another person like him in fear of losing. But if it was, the US would break up pretty quickly, perhaps as early as Trump's second term.

Trump is not authoritarian? Consider... 1) Stating Mexico WILL pay for the wall rather than first entering any discussions let alone negotiations. 2) By law, each deportation must be preceded by due process. Trump's mass deportation proposal would violate existing laws. 3) Barring entry to this country based on religion violates the First Amendment. 4) Advocating 'waterboarding and worse' violates many U.S. and international laws we are signatures to, including the Geneva convention. 5) Advocating the killing of families of terrorists violates international laws we are signatures to, including the Geneva convention. 6) Some of our trade agreements have a term period. Trump advocates unilaterally breaking these agreements. 7) A measure of authoritarianism is being punitive towards opponents. Trump's childish, derogatory name calling of every opponent, suggesting protestors be punched in the face and carried out on stretchers is the polar opposite of reasoned debate and respect for alternative views. His comments about McCain and the disabled reporter were inexcusable. 8) In an interview with Ivanka Trump, she respectfully described the way her father runs the business as 'there's him and then there's everybody else', along with other comments suggestive of a very dominant style. It may work and you may rightfully support it. But it IS an authoritarian style.
@ianmanhattan8 жыл бұрын
Gregory Parrott oh his rhetorical style is authoritarian but his actions are more in line with a compromiser. He did reach out to Lindsey Graham and sat down with Paul Ryan. An authoritarian would have kept steamrolling rather than talking.

Are you saying his actions will contradict what he has repeatedly and emphatically told his supporters? Boy, will his supporters be pissed.
