I use the free version of Grammarly to make my writing as clean as possible before I give it to anyone else both for my fiction and the business writing I do for my day job. I will say the prompt at the bottom right telling me I've got dozens of advanced errors (so I would buy the premium version to fix them) has always worried me a little, especially since I have done editing in the past. Having watched this video I feel somewhat better about sticking to the free version as the issues are most likely stylistic. How can I know such a thing? I get far less of them in my business writing than my fiction, and Grammarly had a hissy fit when I wrote a piece of fiction using a Victorian era voice. The last thing I want is for a program to change my expression and style. Great test. Thank you!

This was actually a very honest review. I agree that the AI isn't advanced enough to replace a human yet but quite decent enough for casual stuff like blogging, youtube, etc. I am still not convinced about the premium. I can run Grammarly free and then double check with MS word grammar. If I am publishing a book, I always get a human anyway!

Excellent video! Thanks for the honest review. Grammarly has helped me a lot in my writing that is more academic. But I used to have my doubts about its accuracy and if people who talk English as native language really see its usefulness. Thanks

I agree with your first sentence. No computer software can replace a human editor. I formerly had a premium subscription to Grammarly. The time it took to reject and in rare cases consider Grammarly’s incorrect suggestions, didn’t save me time. With the extra time I saved after I discontinued my premium subscription, I simply listen to my document. In doing so I can catch most errors. Of course, with my books I send them to a HUMAN editor. In my opinion the free version is not worth the hassle. You have to copy and paste your document. Although, I believe know you can nowadd the extension, but even still it causes you document to operate more slowly. I found that the time it took to reject and or consider their incorrect suggestions, didn’t save me anytime.

Thanks for your comment. There definitely is an added time element when reviewing edits and having to copy/paste. Hopefully Grammarly can offer deeper integrations in the future with apps like Scrivener so you don’t have to leave your writing app’s ecosystem.

I just downloaded the free version onto my new laptop a few minutes ago and it made a mistake immediately, failing to spot an uncapitalised first word of a sentence. I used to care about others getting words right, you can probably tell, but now not so much. I gave up after seeing Grammarly allow "How to properly clean your car." Meh.

You have to be careful when using the free versions of these grammar programmes. I use Grammarly and Pro Writing Aid, (among others), and find they will leave at least one error that can only be corrected in the premium versions. When you look for the error, it is nowhere to be found. I put a section of text through Grammarly, and while it found a couple of errors that I corrected, it showed one text inconsistency error. Likewise, I put the same text through Pro Writing Aid, and it found no errors at all. Are these lone errors bait to get me to purchase the premium?

I do not have the money to afford much. Is there a software that works well to correct punctuation, grammar, and spelling errors? Any that are free that you could recommend? I wish they would add a tool in Scrivener to help with punctuation, and to improve the grammar and spelling tools. I haven't had an English class since my senior year in high school, and that was back in 1987. I'm very rusty to say the least. Help! lol

You're a great KZbinr. I just wish you had slightly better lighting. Your face is kind of in shadow. Please don't be offended! It almost looks like you have a light behind you which is not an ideal way to light a video. The light should (generally) be behind the camera.

Grammarly premium isn't as helpful as many write about it! I downloaded it due to excellet reviews, but I was higly disappointed when I saw that the program wasn't to my help so much. I would give it 2 out of 5. It corrects faults but not as successfuly as in reviews on KZbin. And one more negative thing about it, is that you cannot rate it on the official site. Which may be an evidence that the creators don't want us to know about real reviews. You cannot write any comments even on its KZbin Chanel. Coincidence?

There are 4 grammatical errors, 5 diction errors and 1 sticky sentence in your text. Pro Writing Aid is the one for you. Please don't take offence, I know how difficult the English language can be, even for us English speakers by birth.

Actually I had this program and how you see it didnt help :D So, I assume that this program is not for people like me with " bad English" The question is why people need it? If you have good language skills you dont need it because you spell well and can even find others faults but if you have bad language skills it doesn't help.
