ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Autism and chewing is something that goes hand in hand. Until now I have just been using sensory toys to help with anxiety and meltdowns. I recently realised that you can get autism chew necklace or chew toys for people on the autism spectrum.
Chewigem are a company who made autism chew toys uk and are awesome at it! The items they sent me are AWESOME I love each and every one of them. The company make chewable toys for autism, sensory chew necklace, and lots more autism gadget type items.
It’s awesome to finally have sensory toys that I can chew on that won’t hurt my teeth or the item, this is a huge step forward for me with chewers and chewable sensory toys for autism.
I highly recommend you check them out at the link in the first two lines of the description of this video. A big thank you from The Aspire World to ChewiGgem for the package.

I used to chew up plastic bottle caps, headphone wires, my fingers, and water bottle straws. (Pro tip: if you can't afford a chewy, Bubba reusable straws are very similar to chew tubes.) Now, I have two necklaces from Stimtastic, one for light chewing and one for medium. The muscles around my mouth and jaw have pretty low tone so medium is the max I like to use. Light is great for when I feel like grinding my teeth, medium is for when I need to chew. If you've read all that..have a great day/night!

I've only had.negative ways to expel sensory issues during meltdowns, most notably with head banging, clawing and hand/arm biting so it's good knowing there are helpful tools for that. I didn't even know I was autistic for a while but I always craved something I could keep on me to help with that.

Emotional regulation is like a strange language that you don't speak at first, but the more you practice and try stuff the more automatic it will be to you. Keep working hard on it, at first I used to go mind blank when my therapist said "use your resources" now I know exactly what she means. Three years into therapy I've got two boxes for two different kind of reactions I've got and they are full. Best of luck to you.

This is great. I tend to sort of gently chew on my hands when I'm stressed, but that really freaks people out. The dog tags would probably work well for me. No doubt people would still stare, but I think they would freak less.

Diagnosed late. I chew on my fingernails, the edges of my fingers, the insides of my cheeks, biscuits and chocolate (to the point of harm as a child, people commented but didn't take note... then I got my hands on more food items as an adult, so less harm, but bad diet). Now I'm at high risk of diabetes and am finally realising I NEED something chewable to help me. Thanks for this video and others! It's really helping! (I used to ruin pencil tops too.)

I had no idea how much I chew on things. Never really crossed my mind. When I was a kid I would bite my nails, still bite my fingers just not as bad. I definitely relate to chewing on hoodie strings. I like to chew on bottle caps have the whole thing in my mouth, lol. I have a vape pen which I chew on the cap which is plastic. Oh yeah and any necklace I had would go in my mouth. People look at you like your weird and ask you why you have a necklace in your mouth. 😒 Also almost forgot how much I love hard candy like jolly ranchers, I like to chew on the and bend them when they got small enough and chewy starburst. Now I get why I would have to buy them when I worked in customer service in Retail. Super stressful job also was going through a divorce at that time and had PTSD.

I'm chewing on a Chew Stixx while watching this. Before I got my chewie, I used to chew on anything like pens (I'd end up cracking them), cardboard, wood shavings, newspaper/paper that smells good (I still do it cause of the taste), Capri san straws, any straws, freshly clean shirts (because of the ell and taste of the detergent), shiny objects (they're smooth and provide visual and taste/touch input as well).

No way! I was just headed here to ask you about chewables!!! I am trying to find a chewable that doesn't really stand out too much. This is fantastic. I am relatively new to the idea of Asperger's. My kiddo has exhibited all the symptoms, but it wasnt until recently that I found a word for it. I have since started watching your channel and it is like watching our life through someone else. I greatly appreciate you giving me insight on all aspects of this. All this time I just thought I must be a terrible mum- she has regular meltdowns, she always thinks I am angry even if I'm smiling, she cant process multiple/loud noises. I feel like I am getting a second chance to be the best mother for her that I can be. Thank you, THANK YOU!!

I tend to chew on my hands and my cheeks. Also, I have chomped on my cell phone when I was having a meltdown. I bought a chew for around my neck recently but it's a tad too thick for regular use, but still good for meltdowns. My problem is a bit strange. I like to grab a bit of my inner cheek and run it between my teeth. Sometimes I nibble on it as well. I have scars from it as I've done it most of my life and I'm 37 now. I am going to try to find a thinner one to run between my teeth instead. The main reason I have done it for so long because my family was uneducated about Aspergers and would attribute all of my stimming to my eyesight issues.

My 15 year old son is on the spectrum (as am I) and he bit his phone and shattered the screen, it still works though, during a meltdown this week. His phone is his most precious possession and he is very worried about the cost and us being mad. I always have insurance on his phones, especially because he gets mad when the operating system or an app don't allow him to customize their functions. He has thrown his phone in anger before, but only a couple times has he bitten it and broken it. I had him search online for bitting stim items and we are waiting on our first shipment. We will have to try ChewiGem too.

I used to chew on pencils and water bottles have been a big one for me, probably because it’s not seen as too weird to have your mouth on a water bottle. One of my newer ones has like a silicone top of the straw which is great. I just ordered my first bit of chewlery, it’s so great that these things exist and it’s also cool to know that there’s other people who also feel the need to chew on things!

ive been chewing on things my whole life its seems. it like i started teething and never stopped. hoodies, pens, pencils, straws, pieces of plastic (bottle caps or that little ring, pen caps, even my barbies). i recently bought some chewy jewelry this past year and my hoodies get damaged less, like way less than before. i dont have a diagnosis for anything other than anxiety (but literally everyone in my life says it might be something more, mainly adhd is what theyre suggesting and i will be hopefully talking to someone soon for a formal diagnosis) and chewing helps me feel safer, more secure, none of my other stim things help the way chewing does. this makes me feel less alone bc most of the websites ive come across are mainly aimed at kids (not that it stops me from buying the products), and it feels good to know im not the only adult who needs to chew.

When I was little I chewed on my shirt collars, then got upset because the shirt collar was wet and sticking to my skin, then couldn't find anything else to chew so i continued chewing my collar and changing shirts.. nobody had any idea I was autistic still. Years later now, and i forgot i chewed on things so much, and i never even realised i was subconsciously biting the inside of my cheek the whole time. Now I know i'm autistic It kinda makes more sense. so now I have to work up the courage to ask my mom for one of these. wish me luck! Edit: I got a chewy gem necklace and I’m happy and it’s great and my Nan loves it cause she just thinks it’s a gem. I love it :D

I used to chew on my shirt collar when I was in elementary school then in Jr high and high school I chewed on pens(and still do) and now as an adult I chew on sharpies, the little plastic pieces that go on the coffee cup lid's from coffee shops, TV remotes and the the ear legs on my glasses. I didn't know that was a thing in the autism community because I always got in trouble for chewing on things. I'm glad I'm not the only one who chews on things, now I don't feel alone about that. Except for chewing on the remotes, I'm probably the only one who does that especially when I'm super stressed out.

Oh my, this is so enlightening. I have to pry a lot of potentially dangerous objects out of my partner's hands or jaw all the time because he will chew on anything, even sharp edge metal bottle screw tops. 😅 I'll get him one of these to try! We tried one of those teethers for infants before, but he hated it because the natural gum material is squeaky and not scentless.

I kind of find chewing objects gross. I bite my nails instead, which is gross too, but I bite them only at home when I watch videos and have my hands washed. I never bite them in public, outside or anywhere else but at home. So to me, it is much more natural to bite my own nails than something made of plastic, silicone or rubber. But that s just my own opinion. I mean, I should try biting something else than destroying my nails... Ok, I have just decided to give it a try. Thanks for the tip! Maybe it will help me stop biting my nails.

I have such a bad scar. I suppose people just think its from piercing, well kinda. Coming back to me now, 'nubbins' I called labels nubbins and chewed those as a kid. I appreciate this channel. Learning things all time

When I am in the “Rumbling Stage” I start compulsively chewing on things. I have been chewing on my nails and fingers since I was five because of my compulsive chewing. My fingers are in really bad shape and my Mom is looking for a replacement for my fingers so this video was really helpful. Thank you!!

Omg thank you for telling us about these, I've ordered the necklace and bracelet to try out. When I'm stressed and anxious I have a bad habit of biting my nails and skin on my fingers. And during meltdowns I bite my finger knuckles. I'm hoping this will help and stop me damaging myself so much.

I have ADD and a sensory disorder i always used to chew my hoodie cuffs or strings and then i found like baby teethers but they didnt work as well so i found stimtastic and actually my boyfriend got me my favorite chew which is the bat its so textured and multi chewy though i love my phoenix which is harder it tends to hurt my jaw after a bit i also love the mushroom and dulcimer they are just so nice and cause happy stims.. When we found out last year my nephew has spd and some other sensory type disorders i ordered him some chews from stimtastic also and its amazing getting to see him able to self regulate so much easier than i could as a kid he is about 3 yrs old and he can regulate pretty darn well thanks to his fidgets/chews Have a great day!! ps i loved the collaboration you did with Fathering Autism it helped my sister understand why i get meltdowns etc.

I have always had chewing issues, like I used to chew holes in good shirts, hoodies, things like that. I used to just eat the hoodie strings (why most of my hoodies don't have them anymore, but newer ones do bc I'm working on it) I also chew holes in my cheeks and lips, same with my fingers, but I recently discovered chew stims. I'm getting some on Friday to help with chewing!

that's so cool, I just realised that they could help me a lot. Even if I'm not sure yet, if I'm acually autistic. Back to the Chewelries: As a kid I often was chewing on my jackets zipper tangelsor my hairs. I eventually stopped that as my parens pointed it out to me often but started to chew on my nails or gently on my fingers. Still doing that. I also find a lot of comfort from eating food if stressed but just because of the sensory input, it caused me to gain waight, what brought me close to an eating disorder(ballet and weight gain is a critical thing). Sometimes, if beeing really stressed/overwhelmed from simply existing and having to do daily stuff like going to school, dance classes, chores, I just took a washcloth and chew on it, and it helped me to calm down.

I'm 23 and have chewed inappropriately and intensely throughout my whole life (hoodie strings, pencils, fingernails, fingers, inside of mouth--that last one I'm still struggling badly with). I've never been able to redirect it onto something safe, nothing quite gave the satisfaction I needed (for my style of chewing I need to bite pieces off with my front teeth) (also it's so interesting to me that there are different styles of chewing preferred by different people!) but I've just received my first two pieces of chewelry in the mail and I'm hoping I'll be able to train myself to use them instead! Thank you for your videos, chewing is natural and helpful for so many people for so many reasons and it needs to be normalized!

I bought my son his first chewy toy last month. It's in the shape of a lego piece as he's always chewed his lego blocks. It's the best thing I've ever bought. He's concentrating better at school, he's finding it easier to sit still for longer and he's no longer chewing on small pieces of plastic that he could so easily choke on. Definitely checking these guys out for future reference!

this is great not just for autism, but for ADHD! Its also great if you have a snack problem or for some kinds of anorexia. (I got an eating disorder where i need to snack and then i feel bad so i don't eat). These kinds of sensory gadgets are amazing. Some are a lil too tough for me to casually chew on for hours tho, and i get tired, but i bought a bunch of different ones, cause everyone is different. Personally i like the tough ones for when im upset in any way, and the less though for when im stressed or nervous. I like the ones with sensory stuff on the chew item itself the most, usually they have little nubs or ribs or raised dots on them. Amazing for casual or mindless chewing!

😮omg omg omg I thought I was the only adault it the world that has a chewing on inappropriate things addiction... oral fixation such as knawing WHATEVER even in my sleep .from bitting my buttons off the front of my tops to my fingernails...but. My absolute favorite if glow sticks that are for holidays , parties and events. They are cheep and descreat and fun bright luminous but most importantly the particular type of crunch that happens as a very thin glass tube is smashed into sand between light plastic thats slightly rubbery and a fluid that reacts instantly with its demise by glowing..lmao😜 got to be careful tho because the liquid inside is YUCK!#LOL crunch slowly , softly all the way down.

He picks the paint work and eats it. Had bloods done and came back fine. I'm jus scared he will bite through them as he has done b4. He really needs something though. We will be trying these.
