I remember things better when I see them. If someone tells me something that I hear, I'm less likely to remember it later.

My working memory is nonfunctional. At work, I use paint to mark locations, and write notes on my hand. I’m lost without my pocket notepad. At home, I just do not care, because I’m so mentally exhausted from work. I do have a trick. When I catch myself getting off task, I speak the command, out loud. It’s like a magic spell. “Go feed the chickens”. “Take the trash to the road”. Like that, and it must be spoken.

These tips you shared are great! I use some of them but haven't tried the color coding. Would love to see an example!

If I need to remember something while going from one room of the house to the next, I'll make a small movement of what I want. If it's a spoon, I make a scooping movement. If I want a drink, I'll make a drinking movement. When I get in the room, I want something from, I can forget what I came in there to do, but notice my hand is doing something, and by looking at the movement, I can remember.

I write things down, like songs I want to listen to or things to do or other things if I don't have the time right then. Also to release the happy hormone when I cross it off the list, like my auti-coach informed me. Longtime memory works too well and short-time memory sometimes goes in total brain fog mode.

I say it out loud in a particular sing song rhythm while flicking my fingers near my ear and it is a fantastic difference when I use it vs not using it!!!

When I had my ADHD assessment, the examiner gave me an IQ test and the Working Memory Subtest score (my lowest) was two and a half standard deviations from my highest subtest score.

Been told by neurodivergent that memory and thoughts are more like images or pictures so pragmatic order is harder to express and operate. Methylene Blue even at a very low oral dose with red, near-infrared, and Infrared light therapy seems to assist in providing a more normative format functionality.

People say my long term memory is excellent, some even say phenomenal, but why do I have such trouble with short term memory?

simple, just a pattern ive noticed with my tism. Since honestly, I dont think there is a good classification yet. they say spectrum, I think gradients. Tends to go to extremes. Instead of getting a balanced build, we get a min/maxed meta glass cannon build. like more neurons get focused on long term, but it takes away from your working. incredible visual learning, bad verbal. etc etc. everyone is different. But its very common a lot of us dont get a balanced build at start. Instead we get to pick a blessing, but if you do gotta pick a curse. (encase it isnt obvious, im using video game terms)

Back half of the brain is responsible for knowledge and the front half is responsible with executing on that knowledge. The disfunction lies between front half and back half.

I have a different sort of question. I’m 59 yrs old. I’m recently strongly leaning toward a self-diagnosis of ASD. It explains a lot about my childhood, and adult life. Eight years ago, I underwent 7 months of strong chemotherapy for a very aggressive type of breast cancer. Ever since that chemotherapy, I’ve had many strange and intense lasting effects. They include extreme peripheral neuropathy, sensitivity to sound, touch, and tastes. I have a physical reaction to many types of drugs, too. Also increased general anxiety, and social anxiety, and ocd tendencies, and a Lot more stimming. Understanding people in general, seems to be a lot harder for me. My question is- can chemotherapy “increase” autism traits?

I have a question. For anyone on the spectrum, is it always helpful to have a companion pet? The reason for me asking is because I always had pet cats as my faithful companion growing up, since my childhood. They all helped me out. I'm just wondering if it helpful for everyone on the spectrum.

I have a question. If you are autistic, is it possible to learn better social etiquette and apply it and continuously improve it? Or would someone with autism be unable to apply what they've learned? Please forgive me if that is a dumb question. I'm not currently diagnosed as autistic, but I've struggled very much in life, and my struggles have led me to research all possibilities, including autism. I've always struggled to interact with people socially. At work, I thought I was being friendly, but new co-workers thought I was a b**** until getting to know me. I guess I came across as abrupt and as if I didn't want them to talk to me. Once I heard the feedback from co-workers, I watched many videos on how to communicate better, use facial expressions, like smiling, and improve my eye contact. Now, I make a conscious effort to be less awkward when interacting, but it's still a struggle.

Question: I have been Dx with ADHD, bipolar 1, severe anxiety/depression (can’t remember the technical dx name), C-PTSD, & TBI. So many things also cross over with autism tendencies. How do we make sure that Psychiatrists actually have Dx correctly? Also, if this is answered - is there a way for you guys to tag me so I don’t miss it?? If not, no prob at all! I ask because I always forget to check notifications LOL
