Figma has been my go-to tool after transitioning from Video (w/ AE) to Web (w/ Rive) The best part for me is that Figma's modern design features translate a LOT better to Rive. Can't wait for Overlord to become a bridge from Figma to Rive!

Great video! Although, not to hate on Figma (It has its uses), I don't think it has that much applicability in motion design or most other use cases. Great for web design, mind mapping, and to some extents, provides more freedom than Photoshop or Illustrator, but not so much for anything else. I also don't think this is what Figma team are aiming for either, I feel they have made that very clear.

Thanks! And I hear you; Figma isn't going to replace Illustrator for me in most situations. But the reality is lots of projects that are created in Figma need to be animated by motion designers using After Effects (could be for a promo video or just a mockup presentation). And I think understanding how to use Figma beyond "how to get designs to Ae" is very beneficial for an Ae user.

@sackjipo I’ve been working as a motion designer with UI/UX agencies for the last 4 years. And for 90% of the projects, I’ve had to use Figma, not Illustrator. Just like Jake said, It’s not going to replace illustrator, cause it has a totally different use case. If you’re going to animate any kind of UI, chances are you’ll be given a Figma link. And because of the ease of access and usage, more and more people are using Figma.

@@JakeInMotion Are you explaining how to push Figma shapes with Corner Smoothing (IOS) to AE in the course? It would be amazing if so because client's UI is not AE round corner.

sorry but I didn't see those icons aligned properly even once in this video lol
@JakeInMotion2 ай бұрын
Hahaha, well yeah I see why you mean. I should've explained more clearly how I was attempting to align them. Instead spacing each icon a fixed amount based on their center points, I had each row occupy the same width with even spacing between icons per-row.
@JakeInMotion2 ай бұрын
And now that I think about it, all you would need to do to align the icons from their center point would be to put them all in frames with the same dimensions. Center the icons within each frame (you can even use auto layout for that) then put those frames into the grid frame.

Amazing video❤ i usually use figma as a alternative for illustrator 🤔

That's great! There's definitely a lot to be said for the vector creation tool in illustrator, but layout in Figma is SO NICE.
