I've been homeschooling for a while, but researching for even longer. I love to research! But that can also be a giant waste of time. You are at the very top of my list of go to when I have a homeschooling query. Thank you for letting God use you as a wonderful instrument to help the rest of us

I love how you said that once your children can read, write, and do math effectively, they can pretty much teach themselves the rest. This is brilliant wisdom! I also love that you said to put content last in priority. This also makes so much sense. On a side note, my 6 yo came to sit with me while I was watching this video and exclaimed very excitedly, "Hey, that's my McGuffey's, my Lesson Book, and my Gentle Grammar." He was even more excited when I told him that you created those books for him to use and told me that he would like that McGuffey's. He said, "What?! Really?!" It seems you have a new fan. 😊 Thank you so much for sharing, Sherry You are such a blessing to so many.

Love this!! ❤ I'm trying to do more read a louds to get my boys (10,10,9,9,5&3) to start a love of reading. My girls (15, 14, 13) read even when I need them doing something else hahahaha!! I have them read whatever they're reading to their 2 year old sister and 5 month old brother while I'm busy with the boys.

Thank you. You are so full of experience and wisdom. I’m finding myself in the usual trap of new homeschoolers with young children in that I want to do ALL THE THINGS even though they aren’t reading yet and are probably not developmentally ready for them yet. It’s hard sometimes to trust that God has all things under control and that it is in His hands. I need to remind myself frequently. 😉 We are using your free phonics program and are hopefully going to be starting the pictorial primer soon!

U can do this with the RC curriculum. Just books but its already layed out u just correct daily essays, spelling quizzes. Unless ur teaching primary skills but after 2nd u can start automating and add the math and self reads.

This video has given me such wonderful confirmation that I'm going in the right direction in regards to building a strong academic foundation, before worrying about too much content. I definitely started out the opposite way with my oldest 8 years ago, but I have since began seeing that I need to concentrate on basics first---fortunately for the rest of my children, lol. And that's a great idea about autopiloting. So thank you once again for such a helpful video. ❤

So helpful! You just helped me realize that the reason I am feeling overwhelmed with six children (besides the fact that four of them are 4 years old and under) is that I am trying to teach so much content. I am definitely going to attempt to change that. What do you have your children do after they finished Gentle Grammar? Is that all the grammar that they do? Thanks so much!
@MomDelights

There are a few ways to go. Harvey's Grammar is an excellent step. Right now we are using Flash Kids workbooks.
@gbcflower
@gbcflower 4 жыл бұрын
@@MomDelights About what age do you introduce Harvey's Grammar? I am finding some of the language of it to be difficult to follow. Do your children work through it on their own? I was considering using Simply Grammar by Karen Andreola because I thought it might be easier to understand than Harvey's Grammar.
@MomDelights
@MomDelights 4 жыл бұрын
@@gbcflower have you heard of the Gentle Grammar I offer? It is very similar to the Andreola book you mentioned, only more "autopilot" friendly. I would do Gentle Grammar and then Harvey's (I offer it as a free download on my blog, MomDelights.com or you can buy it already printed out on Amazon)

Another cheating (when mama is sick or very ill and expecting) is to circle page numbers in workbooks (like spelling, math, or phonics)...which means do these pages by the end of the week. Then you can have a required reading hour-requiring them to start with Bible, McGuffey, and 1 chapter minimum of a book from your library-and have them fill out the assignment sheet themselves. When your body just can't do much this is a survival way. I love these assignment sheets....I think making them and posting them on a bulletin board for all to see would help motivate children to stay on task and give you a visual of where they are at all times.
