That module is the TCM ( transmission control module). Some comments are correct, you need the gear leaver to lock in order to pull out the key. Love this car and i really wish to see you bring back to life and on the road again.

That's the trans computer on the center console. Engine is behind drivers headlight. That could be why it's not starting, if it cannot see that it's in park or neutral, it won't energize the starter relay. Could be why it won't let go of the key as well.

MR239764 (Not MR219764) is the Fuel Consumption Module. It is a relay that triggers the fuel pump when the engine is cranking. Part is also used in the Mitsubishi Montero. The part may not be available new. The gear shift flopping around, may mean that someone disconnected the shift cable from the transmission to get the car into neutral and roll it around. The engine not cranking, and the key being stuck, could be caused by the mechanical disconnect of the shift cable.

That control module might be fixable, some cleaning with isopropyl alcohol, go over all the solder joints with a soldering iron and add some new solder. Those ones are easy to try to fix because all chips are so big, modern ones is not that easy.

Put a starter, do the suspension work, put a vibrant bottle resonator with a high flow cat, put a alpine head unit with kicker speakers in it too

In case anybody cares, yellow is the key to airbags, ALL airbag connectors are yellow and most will have some sort of locking mechanism to keep them from coming loose unexpectedly, and airbag wiring is encased in yellow plastic conduit.It helps when playing one of my favorite games"what the hell is that relay/module/connector, etc.

Those are my favorite cars. We had a green one that was a little bit older than that one my cousin had that exact same one his was in black. The story is the kitchen caught on fire and the outside of the house burnt and got the car and it was convertible too. I love those cars, brother I really do, but this was years ago when he was a teenager.

Hi Randy! From personal experience with JDM's or any automatic shifter in general, after accidentally shutting off the car and trying to pull out the key many times, it's the vehicle's safety feature of not allowing u to remove the key if the car is not properly in Park, as that serves as the car's locking mechanism. This could entirely be reason why the key is not pulling out, along with the fact that the car will not allow you to start it, even in Neutral, and why the car will just let you shift without the gear lock.

I have done a ton of flood cars and the water line does not represent how much of the car was under water, it represents the depth it sat in for an extended period of time. Basically long enough to produce a legible line.

Randy! That module is for the Automatic Transmission not the ECM. But by the looks of that I would say it probably needs replaced.

Just to be on the safe side I'd drop the pan on the transmission and replace the filter, clean the pan up, fresh gasket, and fresh transmission fluid because there could be a possibility of condensation in the transmission.

One of my ex- boyfriends had an eclipse. I want to say that generation also. Not a convertible. It was an okay car but it was a problem child. Thanks for the content anyway. Been a crazy couple of days and it is going to get crazier for a few more days. My mom has had a nasal palps way up in between her eyes and it is pushing into her brain. It has grown significantly from September through December and it possibly caused her to have a seizure. Doctors concerned that it might be cancer. So just worrying about that

On my 2001, every so often when it is in park, you still have to give a good slap with the palm of your hand to get it to lock for the key to come out.

It is the transmission control module According to the Internet, the engine control, module or computer I guess is located behind the glove box. They say very easy to get to and remove.

From what I see you go through, I think they jacked up the shift linkage & that's why your key won't come out 'cuz there's some sort of interlock system in there

I have a very good gut feeling that..... The starter is likely OK here's why.... Notice how the Shifter is basically freely moving , I'm thinking the shifting cable was disconnected at the transmission or at the shifter with the disconnect at the shifter as suspect. If the transmission is not in Park Or Neutral the starter won't get power to engage the solenoid this is where the neutral safety switch comes into play which could be damaged on its own . To test the starter/solenoid jumping the pins of the starter relay in the under hood relay/fuse box ,or jumping the solenoid exciter terminal to the positive side of the battery with a lone wolf switch or touch it to the POS battery terminal and see if the starter can crank the engine over without the spark plugs in so that the engine won't start/run this can also be done without the ignition on for added safety Remember Safety First.
