That may be your opinion, but Megatron himself hated who he was. He doesn’t care about being badass, he cares about freedom. He has since the beginning. He just lost his way down the road. Being an Autobot is Megatron’s way of righting a wrong.

@@thecomic2731 As much as I hate him and love Megatron's character, Getaway had it right: 104.7 billion people dying because Megatron "lost his way" is inexcusable. That's why I'm glad the ending had one version where he got justice for his crimes (if there could even be any justice for them brough about by his own death) and one where the character we cared about still got to roam the stars with the crew

@@samuelwithers2221 Yeah, Getaway was right, undoubtablty. In a sense, the only mistake he made was betraying other members of the crew, and not just Megatron. It truly is a greatly written story, given that discussions over their ideals can occur.

I have to disagree with many of the comments here as I for one am very entertained by the idea of Megatron becoming an Autobot or rather just a better mech in general. The reason for the appeal is because stories where absolute bastards are faced with the prospect of a change for the better are indisputably the best if pulled off right and the bigger the bastard the more interesting the story will become in order to try and deal with a character's overwhelming flaws. Megatron's most recent iterations share the 'noble gladiator corrupted' origins so the seed has always been there and Megatron doesn't have to be neutered as a character but rather redefined as events force everyone's favourite decepticon leader to re-evaluate where he stands.

ya know i kinda dig this....i never read much of the Transformers comic but hav always been a hardcore fan of the G1 series and most other versions. I hav no idea why the sudden redemtion amd it doesnt quite fit the character at all....but...i like it. its just a new twist and I always like that. Love this artwork aswell.

Commander Cummins IDW's Megatron was a different character than G1 Megatron. IDW's Megatron was a miner who wanted to change an oppressive Senate by peaceful means but after he was nearly beaten death became more jaded. More and more things happened until as he and his fellow miners were being fired and weren't going to be given new jobs a fellow miner spoke out and was beaten to death. Enraged Megatron killed the guard and threw his pickaxe at the senator who fired him and his fellow miners. IDW's Megatron was more approachable than other Megatrons even before he turned Autobot. He turned Autobot after realizing that he had become a worse monster than the Senate he overthrew.

This was one of the only times i actually liked megs. Don't get me wrong he was a great villan and all but i guess i have a soft spot for trickster characters. Trickster characters are basically people who change their side like a bad guy becoming a good guy.

You know, I've mentioned this to some people, and they were none too happy about it. One friend described the very idea of Megatron becoming an Autobot and seeking redemption as this: "It's like Maleficent or any other neutering of a good villain. Megatron's new backstory is tragic, and he's STILL evil, but the whole redemption thing kills it..." Another guy I mentioned it to added this: "Redeeming him not only ruins his backstory and neuters a good villain, but Megatron's always been such a complete and utter bastard, it wouldn't even make sense for him to find redemption."

RexBlazer1 This version of Megatron probably had amnesia or Alzheimer's and was reprogramed by the Autobots to deal with Starscream and the other Decepticons. That would be the only other acceptable explanations for a villain being redeemed other than cloning, time travel, lobotomy, doppelganger, body swap, alternate universe, Bipolar Schizophrenia, or Multiple Personality Disorder.

Frank G well in this comic starscream isnt a decipticon nor autobot anymore (in fact he is the new ruler of cybertron), and megatron is still the original (except for the fact that whirl gave megatron one of his two hearts). but still i like your explanation

I like that megatron turned to an autobot but i think it would be awesome and tragic if council of worlds went and slaughtered (presumably obviously) the lost light crew sending megatron into a path of vengeance and turned back into what he was again and watching him deal with returning to his demons as he brings the universe to its knees once again in a quest for revenge

Idw's Megatron started out as a freedom fighter fighting against a corrupt Senate eventually becoming corrupted himself. Now he has realized his doing has caused pain and destruction as well as suffering to millions of beings and wants to make everything right

I think that you can think of IDW Decepticons as being a kind of Imperium of Man for the Transformer race. Not in their origins, but in the sense that the Decepticon cause stands for the inherent dignity of the Transformer race. As Cybertron was bled dry, Megatron decided that he needed more territory, and thus various planets, including Earth, were invaded. Unfortunately, as time went on, Megatron started using more and more brutal tactics. And they didn't damn well 'tame' him. He came to the realization that he had lost his way on his own, and the comics still show him as a vicious monster. If he seems less dangerous, it's only because the autobots are depicted as a lot less moral.

If I’m being honest I’ve never really been into comics before and then once when my mom took my little sister to sell Girl Scout cookies at a comic book store she brought me back 3 Lost Light Volumes (1,2, and 4) and I hadn’t read ANY of the previous books yet so I was shocked that Megs was wearing an Autobot badge! But I do like it. And I’m glad I got to know this adaptation of his character BEFORE reading all the atrocities he committed because I have a tendency to hold a grudge, even against fictional characters, for some reason. I can sometimes be heard singing and random tune with the words about how I hated the mutineers. I still blame them for Skids’ death. And Ravage’s too I guess.

In the comics Megatron originally created the Decepticons as a group of freedom fighters to an oppressive government that forced you into a job and social standing depending on your alt-mode. Overtime however, Megatron became corrupt with power, which lead to him wanting to take over the galaxy and leading a 4 million year long war across space. He has recently realized that he has lost his way and join the Autobots to be judged by the Knights of Cybertron.
