one of the most beautiful cars ever made, only topped by the pre-facelift regular v8 vantage (i think the back is even prettier there). if you want a fast track machine, you should get a caterham or a lotus exige, but if you want a fast but still comfortable piece of art, imo nothing tops the vantage. nothing!

Picked mine up two weeks ago, have clocked up 700kms and can report that the sport shift 2 in drive in automatic mode their is a noticeable annoying jerk every gear change which is quite annoying. Therefore I drive it in manual 100% of the time. Oh and it sounds f*****g magnificent.

I love Astons, and this was a great review. Other reviewers/publications have complained about this gearbox being terrible, but this in-car video suggests otherwise. That's a pretty quick gear change, how much faster would you want this thing?! It's not a 458 Italia, and it's not meant to be. Also, screw the 911 Turbo! Great car, but too common! Astons have exclusivity!!! Granted, another 100hp, 110 lbs less weight and a real manual would be FANTASTIC! :D

@HesteBremse Most prefer paddles that are fixed. That way it doesn't matter if the wheel is turned, the up and down paddles are always in the same place. If they move with the wheel, they can swap positions.

@TheCruizer Driving a Ford T is quite different from driving a gt3 RS or a Caterham r500. The thing about a stick shift, is that for many people it is more rewarding because it is far more difficult to perfect. I prefer a manual box, not just because the fun factor, but also because I think it looks and feels better. I also prefer a sequential stick shifter over a paddle one. It's just more masculine aswell, when you slam the gears in (might hurt it) it's like pounding a super model. xD

Something about the external shots (and bumper cam) means I can't shake the impression it was all generated in Gran Turismo or something.
@boredgunner12 жыл бұрын
Nope. This is pretty much a less powerful and slightly lighter V12 Vantage, but with worse brakes. Transmission is also different: the V12 comes with a six speed manual transmission (Sportshift didn't fit from what I've read). The Sportshift transmission is the reason why I'd choose this or the DBS over the V12 Vantage.
@hosrom13 жыл бұрын
@fokGoogol I was referring to reliability, not performance. It gets better with time, but a lot still fail. Not saying manual transmissions do not go bad, but they are more or less bullet proof. Just had bad experience with such transmissions.

Hm I'm terribly sorry about that mix up. I do know the starting point for this car is $140,000. However, for some reason I was probably thinking of a v-12 vantage and not paying attention. However there are some new 2012 models, convertibles of course, being sold for over $170,000 and a coupe at $165,000.
@tigerbalm66613 жыл бұрын
I truly feel that whenever some says. "You won't miss the manual gearbox..." they have lost that special connection between driver and car. A sports car is not about faster shifting or accurate blah blah....it's about the driver having a physical interaction directly with the shifting. No electronics will replace that feeling! Paddle shifters are a shame for real car enthusiasts. What's next, auto-pilot steering with no steering wheel? My suggestion to the car maker. "Get back to basics!"
@sultanabran113 жыл бұрын
Have to have a manual gearbox. It's not about how fast or how good these paddle shifts are, it's about driving. 1700kg or a bit less is way too heavy for a car that size though.
@Ioanides00113 жыл бұрын
that sound for the engine is more relevant that the carbon ceramic brakes I guess. It probably cost more to develop that than to buy the brakes actually :-) Sounds awsome, looks great, I think a lot of customers might prefer this to a 911 turbo.

@hosrom sadly in about 50 years the proper will probably be gone. I completely agree with you. But there was a time when people were saying "id go for non-power steering anytime" slowly technology extincts all lesser versions.

Still think tho is the best looking Aston apart from the One-77, I have seen the DBS, and the DB9 coupe and convertible but I have also seen a V8 Vantage, not sure if it's an S, around my way and it's stunning. If I won the lotto I would get it :) An Aston is a lot more special then a Porsche I think.
@dynoroad13 жыл бұрын
Sure, paddle shifters may be marginally faster than manuals (though not faster than sequential stick shifters, which are lighter aswell) but I personally think it's more fun being able to slam the gears in place, or just to feel the gear lever (may sound gay) when you're crusing on the country side. I just hope the car makers doesnt stop making them, because there will always be people who love to drive a manual. Do the opposite, try to improve the manual gearbox, maybe make a 7 speed :P

@hosrom : I agree on the satisfaction but I'd have to disagree on the 'not quite perfected'. New automatic transmission are far superior to manual shifting. If manual was faster in any way Formula One would be using manual trannies. Modern day paddle shifters (in supercars) do extremely well with shift times measured in milliseconds. Torque transfer with McLaren's SSG is done almost seamless (so you'd hardly experience any deceleration during shifts).

Yeah...a "proper" manual. I'd like my engine Carbureted, an LRA, and four wheel drum brakes, too. Face it, you can't beat an Auto-man for perfromance and general usefulness.
@hosrom13 жыл бұрын
@terribleannoyance You missed my point, look at the transmissions in those cars, not the strategy or engine, power etc. We can argue all day about this, but we all have opinions. Sure, as i stated before, it maybe smoother, faster and more economical, but id still stick to a manual transmission. If i were to buy a car, and i had to pay for a manual transmission over the auto/double clutch, i'd pay extra for the manual, because only with a manual tranny do i feel like i am actually driving.
