Bought the turbo a month ago. To those contemplating on buying, I can really say it is money well spent. If you can stretch your budget a little bit then do your self a favor and go for the turbo. I would like to add that the driver's seat on the turbo can be height adjusted (manually) and there is the power mode and sport mode("manual") for the turbo, both of which performs a bit differently from just using the automatic drive mode. I have tried all modes on a long ride with long and some extremely inclined uphill climbs (4 passengers including driver) and the car performed beyond my expectations, no hesitation at all. The turbo unit doesn't necessarily turn on all the time so the car can essentially be driven as if it was only a 1.0L but almost has the power of a 1.5L engine available when needed. Great review as always.

I will be commuting from the city to our farm and a small portion of our commute will be on a questionably managed gravel road. I wanted the larger R17 tires and higher ground clearance of the Raize (8 in) to deal with imperfect roads. Also we have limited space for parking in the city so a Conquest 4 x 4 was not a consideration. So the Raize is a good compromise for us and ~ 1M was my max budget. My wife and I really liked the additional safety features that come with the turbo (BSM, RCTA, rear passenger airbags). She usually challenges me for every peso and I was expecting her to insist on the cheapest model but she was all in on the more expensive turbo. They only have a yellow turbo on the floor now but I expect to order Turquoise blue turbo this week. Edit: I agree with the author that it would have noteworthy to have rear passenger vents for aircon - this is the Philippines. Our tester forgot to use his paddle-shifters and manually shift on steep slopes 😁

Hey, Caco and Friends. We own a white Raize Turbo (the "White Rabbit"). We only ever considered the Turbo... for all the reasons you state. We agree with most of your points, but have a few extra's, based on our 3 months experience to date. First, traffic in the city is soo slooow, you won't need the turbo or the paddle shifters. The G series should do fine. Second, having driven something like 700 km in the mountains of Northern Luzon, anyone who has to drive in hills or mountains can definitely use the turbo. Our mountain routes included Pagudpud to Tabuk (inside road, not via Tuguegarao), Tabuk to Sagada, Sagada to Banaue, Banaue to Baguio and the Kennon Road route on the way back to Metro Manila. Endless slopes, up and down. Endless tight and hairpin curves. Here is where the turbo shone. Using the "S" (Slope) mode, the turbo kicked-in and the Raize roared up the hill climbs. Add the Power button and it was pretty easy to pass in zones of 100m or less. Handling on all those hundreds of curves felt agile and capable (I've never driven a Porsche). The short wheel base helped to stick in our lane on tight turns. I didn't find the paddle shifters useful at all. I tried them in the flats of Pangasinan, shifting down for extra power to pass all those mosquitoes (trikes). Just okay... but you have to pay attention to your gears. In the mountains, because of all the curves, the paddles could be at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock. Your hands are never where the paddles are. On the subject of fuel consumption: the Raize will tell you your consumption on the display. We live on the edge of MM with just one road in to "civilization". And that road sucks. We get just 7.5 km per liter. I haven't done the calculations on our road trip, but there's no way we got the 20+ km per liter Toyota claims. That said, we trust it's better than almost all competitors above tiny urban sedans. Again, thanks for the reviews.

Hey man, I'm also looking to get the Turbo Variant, I am worried about the complaints about Vibration and Cheap interior. How's it going for you so far?
@ericindar Жыл бұрын
@@josephlawrence7635 The vibration is a non-issue. It may be true that 3-cylinder engines aren't as smooth as engines with an even number of cylinders, but I don't notice it at all. The interior is not filled with luxury materials. Lots of plastic to be sure. But I haven't experienced any rattling parts or rough edges. I'd rather Toyota put money into mechanics than leather. For example, I would have liked disc brakes on the rear, instead of drums.
@josephlawrence7635 Жыл бұрын
@@ericindar Hey man, I got mine in full white :). I do feel the vibrations when idling, but not too bothersome. What I found out is the transmission does feel like a common CVT. I read somewhere that it uses D-CVT and has a real first gear. However, unlike the traditional M/T and A/T, it does not respond immediately when you floor it. What is interesting, is if I step on it slowly as I properly should, it's even faster to respond. haha It's definitely an interesting looking car, and it's really smooth on the road. The square front take some getting used to since I came from a car with a more circular front.
@ericindar Жыл бұрын
@@josephlawrence7635 Glad you pulled the trigger on the Raize Turbo. Odd that you find it slow to accelerate when you floor it. In the months I've been driving the turbo, I don't feel much lag at all. Put a trike in front of me and I'm around him in a flash. I like the "baby SUV" look... that's one of the reasons I bought a Raize. Anyway, try to get out to the mountains nearest you. Turbo, "S" mode, PWR button, tight turning radius. It's loads of fun.

Thank you for this comment, my mom prefers a Geely Coolray (I tested it, it is indeed powerful and smooth but i’m worried about the DCT when problems arise) but I’m trying to convince her to get a Raize turbo (haven’t tested this yet, but I trust Toyota and parts are easy to find) although I’m worried about the commonly stated comment about the delay of acceleration and whether it could easily speed up at mountains and steep inclines as we live near mountains. Ive been driving a Mazda BT-50 for 3 years now and has went through 100k km mileage. I drive daily and I really love my pick up - it’s already like my home but I’m considering a much more fuel-efficient one.. and a more compact one so that my mom can easily move around.

I'm confused. How many variants does the Raize have? If there is a "top of the line naturally aspirated" and a "top of the line turbo", so are there variants below EACH of them? Anyway, I think for 125k, you get more airbags (God forbid you don't use them), a slightly bigger screen, front sensors (not needed much as back sensors make more sense), and a little bit of power. Is it worth it? For a small crossover, maybe not. But hey, it comes down to personal preference. Great review again, team! Cheers!

The Raize has 4 variants with two engines available. The 1.0 Turbo is the top of the line of the ENTIRE model range but the 1.2 G CVT is the highest spec available for the 1.2 engine models. Turbo means more air. So it needs more fuel even though it has a smaller engine hehe thats based on my own understanding but someone please correct me if in wrong.

thanks for the review! This is the unit that I'm planning to get by Jan 2024 but still confused if I will get the turbo or the 1.2G. Now I have an idea.

For the price of a good iPhone, I wouldn't mind paying 125K for the turbo, 17" wheels, slightly better looks and interior, as well as the front sensors.

You should test the hill start along Little Baguio in San Juan or along Old Wack Wack Road going to Shaw. That’s a tricky hill because there’s a traffic light before you cross Shaw.

Could you try to make a comparison about the maintenance of 1.0 turbo engine and 1.2 vvt-i (not turbo). Which of the two can provide savings when it comes to engine maintenance for lower costs.

I wanted this but it's true, the power of this car is lacking especially when loaded. You're only 3 but the car is already showing some struggling. Imagine if its 5 people with some luggage at the back. Now thinking twice. What can you guys suggest aside from the HRV?

The 127k difference (132k if you opted for the two-tone white pearl color) will get you: Looks: -Nicer color options (Blue, Yellow, Pear white vs Red, Gray, Silver) -Bigger, more stylish wheels (17” two-tone vs 16” mono) Mechanical: -More powerful engine (+10ps, +27Nm) Convenience: -Bigger touch screen (9” vs 8”) -Paddle shifters Safety: -more airbags (6 vs 2) -clearance (front) sonar (vs back sonar only) -blind spot monitor + rear cross traffic alert Adding all up I guess/think justifies the price gap.

Does the Turbo variant has an auxiliary water pump that continues to run after you turn off the engine to circulate coolant in the turbo to cool it down further at least 10 mins after you turn off the engine.
