Just replaced mine and used this as a reference. Good video, but some things are worth to mention. You need to remove the plastic liners to get to some bolts, and also the undercover. You might get away with just loosening the undercover on one side, but if you're replacing both sides you might as well remove it completely. Tie rod bolt was 21mm on my 2010, and not a 22 as the video says. I also had to soften it up with an impact wrench before I could use the torx+spanner. There was just no way to loosen it without wrecking the torx. Dropping the spindle risks pulling on the brake hose. Be prepared to rest it on a bucket, the removed wheel or similar. On Xenon equipped cars, there's a level sensor that needs to be unclipped from the control arm on drivers side. (Also the control arm on the video is just magically pulled out once the bolt is removed, while mine had to be forced out with a crowbar.)

Did this yesterday what a pita!!!!!!!!!!, my arms are aching. I changed the shocks, tension struts, stab links and tie rods. Had to buy an angle grinder to get out one of the tie rod ball joints, do yourself a favour 1. YOU NEED AN IMPACT WRENCH!!!! 2. Invest in a decent spring compressor. 3.Follow this videos technique
@dazthephot4 жыл бұрын
I love these videos for both their informative instructions and for all the stuff they don’t tell you. Like how after 14 years of road corrosion you can’t get a t45 in the top of the ball joint not to mention the amount of swearing you need to do to get he ball joint nut loose. Or how you can’t get the strut tube out because of the bottom corrosion holding it in or how the tie rod won’t come out either!!! Etc etc etc time to buy a rattle gun me thinks.

Great video, I just had a local shop install the Bilstein B4 front and rear shocks on my 2006 E90 320i (along with all top and bottom mounts and bump stops), and the front now looks a lot higher than the rear - approximately 5cm difference after alignment. What could be causing that? I'm living in Taiwan and communication with the mechanics here is a bit of a problem due to the language barrier, any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

Very helpful video but, can I just say, there seems to be couple of wrong tool sizes. Maybe it's just my vehicle (2007 E90 318i). Upper control arm was 17mm socket and 17mm spanner. Track rod end was T40 and 21mm spanner. Worst thing you can do with an older car that has slightly rusting components is use a Torx bit that is a mm too small or spanner that is a mm too large.
