Big SUVs aren't the real problem. Crossovers that are just a big ugly body on a car platform are the vehicles responsible for making our lives miserable. Big SUVs are okay, but I would rather have a station wagon
@DavidPysnik2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. Though a truck-like vehicle isn’t for me, I can respect a full-out SUV like this Escalade. Crossovers, on the other hand, try to be a jack of all trades but are truly masters of none while managing to look bland, ugly, and poorly proportioned. A classic station wagon is a far superior choice to a modern crossover.

@BigWheel.2 жыл бұрын
Big suvs gave people a taste of what being big and high is like. They were expensive so it kept people from going too nuts. But crossovers lowered that bar for entry and also made big Suv like cars more accessible because they get rid of some of the downsides of true SUVs or at least reduce those weaknesses enough that your aunt can control it somewhat.
@tylernewton72172 жыл бұрын
@@DavidPysnik this is the correct take. Yes they are master of none. They mix a truck with a car and in the process, lose the best aspects of each. They are not on truck frames so you lose nearly all towing capability and zero real off-road ability. Then they are not built low and stable like a car, so you lose all the handling and sleek appearance of a typical sedan. Worthless sacrifices all for a trend!

Today's Escslades are much more distinctive and better engineered because GM actually gave Caddy a decent budget to work with and its reputation became mainstream along with a decent advertising campaign. For the most part I have learned to appreciate them over the last decade.

Adam's Rare Classic Cars channel has an interview with the designer for this Escalade that's really interesting. It's amazing how much sheetmetal it shares with the Tahoe yet looks completely different. Everything from the A-pillar back is accomplished with cladding over straight up Tahoe. The dash is also kinda like that, an Escalade unique "pad" fascia of sorts placed over the regular Tahoe stuff. The front end is the only part that's 100% unique. Considering those restraints they accomplished a lot with a little.

But mine just has some wear and like one rip on the driver seat where it looks like the previous owner may have been a bit over weight so he dragged his body off of the seat and destroyed the side of the seat. The fact that all the full size SUVs look alike is not something only SUVs have but all GM cars since the 1960s . It's rolling on 22s had 24s when I bought it but with the weight of my tools and material, ladders, the low sidewalls wouldn't handle that so I switched to 22s and it's still very fast and very comfortable to drive and I am in Los Angeles traffic every day. I like older gen cars because the simply look different compared to all the cookie cutter cars on the road today. As an owner of the 2nd gen Escalade and former z71 Tahoe of the same gen, I prefer the slade. Just as solid, better transmission, more power, and way more comfortable all around ride. It’s the best used vehicle I’ve owned yet. It should be a classic truck, it is for me.

This thing isn't a Cadillac. Malicious glare at Lincoln, but this was the downfall of everything. Ginormous anodyne SUVs in every driveway, clogging the roads, fueling fantasies of the poseur urban adventurers, and, as much as I love horsepower - wasteful bloated behemoths most buyers never need. Not even mentioning the whole new 'class' of customer - towing, what's towing? Gotta have chrome wheels and gold badges though. SUVs - "Everybody open your mouth" - Barenaked Ladies. Put a big frickin tax on all of them.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m a station wagon lover, and hate SUV’s because they are largely responsible for killing the wagon body style.

This one was a showing of a master at work. You managed to bring up any number of points I have mentioned here, and on other video channels, and rolled it up neatly into one package. Especially the part about the SUV craze being the death of everything else. One thing, though, of the undesirable elements you mentioned, the worst may be angry, wine sipping, blonde haired white female real estate agents. Here, even with crossovers, they are absolutely psychotic, and a far bigger threat to me and the Evil Prius than the guys with the big diesel pickups. They make Virginia Beach my least favorite city in the area to drive in. Perhaps the SUVs with the "Captain's Chair" option had that huge console in the back to carry the containers of boxed wine. The SUV craze I tend to call a need for some people to look down on everybody else. If you take it down to its roots, I consider those roots to be Detroit's answering the fuel crisis with shrinkage instead of technology. The 1985 C Bodies by GM and the 1986 E Body cars that followed them were especially a step too far. Oddly, the first thing GM axed to build more trucks and SUVs was the last of their body on frame cars...

31:44 All of the door panel and dashboard woodgrain inserts are fake in Escalades from this generation. Only the steering wheel wood is genuine.

Okay Bill, thank you for another video. Seems like you’re slacking a bit… lol. All kidding aside, I am a subscriber and avid viewer of your channel. I, more often than not, switch to Autohaus’ website to look at pricing as I do have a small collection and want to continue to add to it. I am a native Floridian born and raised in Miami. Graduated from FIU and never looked back albeit I do visit Miami from time to time. Most of my family is still there. I live in Germany now and have been looking for a large luxury SUV for some time now. This one really sparked my attention. I owned a 2005 when I still lived stateside and hated selling it but was too much to ship here at the time. So, before Autohaus puts too much into it, how much would it take to buy as is and have you guys arrange shipping to Germany?

I can't tell the difference between old cars tbh. Even between brands. But I will say I hate how brands are trying to make their brands look alike. I can't tell the difference between BMWs MB, etc Toyota and the Koreans are the way to it. They look part of their respective brands but you can tell the look different and effort was placed. Not saying they are all good looking or anything but at least they tried.

@whodahellru81242 жыл бұрын
@@MX-CO If you buy with a tow purpose, I’m fine with that. I do understand there is a need for tow and haul vehicles. My issue is people who buy these things and never use them to for their intent. Buying a 3 ton vehicle just to drive back-and-forth to work is beyond ridiculous. Even buying a seven passenger crossover or SUV for your two kids is ridiculous. Buying these oversize vehicles that guzzle fuel is killing the environment and people in general with the amount of accidents they cause. Their higher center of gravity makes them prone to rolling over and not as stable in emergency maneuvers. I don’t even have to discuss those dreaded Jeep Wranglers dressed up in _everything off-road,_ 5,000 watt LED light bars and finished off with big wheels and low profile off-road tires.

my grandpa before he died had both a dark blue 93 fleetwood brougham (yes, the full size body on frame one) and a black 02 escalade with the column gearstick i preferred the brougham but he sold it sadly so now we're left with this barely functioning tahoe with a cadillac badge on it and of course we wont sell it but i just wish he had kept the brougham instead since it would most likely have outlasted the escalade by a long shot and was much more comfortable
