Brilliant review, thank you - have an MG4 X-Power currently and have a VZ on order for delivery in Jan. We borrowed one for a week and did a 600 mile run to Cornwall and the efficiency of it was mind blowing. That new motor they are fitting is very economical when cruising - we couldn't believe we got 4+ mi/kwh when doing motorway speeds. Also fully agree how much better it drives for NOT being twin motor. The MG is good, but nowhere near as good or premium as the VZ.

I've been an owner for 3 months absolutely love the car, its fun but the main issue!!! The high beam assist, it's so slow that everytime a oncoming car comes I get a flash full of 20 million lumens, apart from this well done Cupra... It would have been nice if when you turn traction off, it was actually off .... Great fun car..

Even with a matrix system, those aren’t perfect. I’m yet to use an automatic high beam system that never results in getting some unhappy flashes. Like many “assist” is cars these days, I tend to disable and operate things myself.

I’ve have mine about a month now - absolutely love it! As someone else mentioned, very pleased with the efficiency, too. Got 3.8 mi/kwh over a 300 mile trip the other day. That was in fairly chilly single digit weather and a lot of motorway (though a lot of heavy traffic slowed the trip down a fair bit). It’s fun to drive, feels premium with lovely seats, and the new software is pretty good (which is a relief, given feedback on older Borns).

The VZ in the green is on my next car shortlist. A great review that covered enough to max out the "I want" factor for me. The only fly in my ointment is the variable opinions about Cupra reliability. Reliability is THE thing for me - I don't mind issues with the media software etc, as long as the car remains driveable for me. I'll wait to see comments on the reliability of this trim

I can relate. Had an e-208 GT and after 2 years it needed a battery replacement. The car was 116 days at the dealer. After I got it back - it didn’t even fell like MY car anymore - due to the long waittime. Have my VZ for two weeks now. Best car I ever had. Just WOW. 🤩

It was the dynamica seats that sold me on the e_boots v3. But saying that, i went in the passenger seat of the v2, and i think that passanger seat was one of the best passanger seats ives sat in. Ive not sat in my own pasanger seat, but its the same seat as the drivers seat, so i know it will be good. Its rare manufacturers put the same seat in the passanger seat, its usually a lesser seat to the drivers. Cupra do seats really well right across the range atm. My kids also like the back seats in my v3 too. They wasnt that happy with my old 19 Leon st seats, hated my 21 ionic rear seats, with reason tbf. I had a 16 gtc vxr and both formt and rear seats wad good. 04 Laguna estate (dynamic) half leather front seats were really good, done a 17h drive to nice in that without back ache

I've had my VZ for about 3 months now. It's almost the perfect car. The only criticism I have is with VAG's cloud platform. I've had a couple of failed overnight charging at suspiciously similar times on a Sunday morning. Almost like they were doing maintenance or updates and it caused the charging error. I should update my review with a 3 month later video

When your video flagged on you tube, I held my breathe , oh Christ !!!! its a Cupra born AWD. sadly not it turns out. That said your review highlights the positives of the car. Back in 2007 i was a hairs breathe away from a R32, ended up with a Golf GT DIESEL as What Car magazine and HMGOV told me diesels were better for the environment.😷😂😵‍💫... the DSG gearbox was a true work of genius in that car. From what you have said the Cupra is fabulous, I like the compact size, power when required, comfort, build quality.. and better user interface, to which i would agree. The gold thing is hideous, I'd have that removed or have it blacked out.😎. however that green colour looks lovely. all in all its seems a very good motor... As always a GREAT REVIEW.. don't always agree with everything you say... still a good motoring channel. 👍👍👍 ps...all electric for the last 10 yrs. 😂

Thank you for the detailed review. I really like this Born. Due to the size, I would need to add a roof box for longer trips. Unfortunately, it is not possible to fit a roof box on a Born or ID3. There might be a solution that works but, it's not homologated for roof bars/box.

Brilliant review -looking forward to getting mine ,with £5000 off on PCP at the moment and £700 free electricity it starts to make it more affordable, so suggest you get one now while the price is right, especially so as from April it will incur road fund tax at £190 PLUS the extra expensive car tax of £410 from the second year of tax. I have to question one incorrect item in the list of standard equipment-the heat pump is an optional item. Also there is no massage function - not that I would want it! I agree that the colour is very smart, but prefer Aurora Blue and think it’s worth the extra.

Just watching this, having been into the showroom this morning and ordered one🙄🫣. I pondered the colour choice for about an hour, finally going for the blue...However, this was mainly due to the fact I saw this green one outside, in the rain and it looked quite dark in colour, almost dark grey. However , this video is making me rethink my choice now, it looks great in the video and i'm seriously considering changing my colour to the green.? Would be interested to hear your view (I need to change colour by tomorrow if I'm going to, so no pressure😁👍)... Great vid, very useful😊

Thanks, are those steering wheel controls that bad? Do you not just get use to them? Had it with my ID3 when I first owned it but haven’t touched them since, or is it because the Born is just wider set of buttons?
@StephenButlerOne
@StephenButlerOne 14 күн бұрын
It depends on how you hold the wheel. Ive always held at the 10 to 2 position, so it's very rare I touch them. The reviews are like marmite, so hate the buttons and some don't understand what the hate it. I think it's all down to how you rest your hands. The biggest issue is the drive select for me. After almost 30 years of manual, and autos, my muscle memory when doing a 3 point turn or reversing into a parking space, has may left had grabbing air every time. And me muttering to myself how much of a knob I am. I think if the selector was in the left. Or just 3 buttons under the infotainment screen it would be better. As once you are mid turning of the wheel with your right hand, then grabbing for air with your left, i still found it awkward to then swap hands on the the wheel so I can grab the selector with my right hand. If your in a rush, like Tring to squeeze a u turn in a busy gap in the road, then realise youre not gonna make the u turn, flustered you F it up. I accepted this would be my future on my hour test drive, as I don't it twice, one 3 point turn, on reversing into a car park space, I knew that day I'd never get used to the right hand selector, so I can't complain about it, I knew what I was getting into. But I would say test one at your local dealer, before anyone goes and buys a secondhand one. You'll know withing 20 mins, what I mean and if your willing to accept the little shit.

I have a love hate relationship with my V2 2022 Born. I really like the looks but holy crap the infotainment system is really, really, really BAD. Sometimes it does not work, most of the times takes several seconds to do anything that you have pressed. The brakes are pretty poor too, also sounds like a bus when moving slowly, with the brakes half on. Also a big one is, you have to accept your profile every time you get in the car lol Glad it's going in 2 weeks for a new i4 M Sport Pro

Cupra are slowly getting there, wish the lower spec Borns had the more efficient motor (not sure I really need 300+ hp on modern roads). I've had a V3 for 2 years, going in for its first service and software updates (the first) later this month (booked the car in early October, but the first slot was mid-December 😂). The car is basically very good, the UI software not so much. Now we need the government to raise the "luxury car" tax limit to £50k (in line with inflation !!!) to encourage EV adoption (70% of EVs are "luxury", really). You need Cupra to loan you one for an extended test, say 12 months 😂.

Great car to drive but i would never buy an electric car until the battery tech improves by another 50%. After 2 years the battery depletes faster on every drive which means more charging and no re sale value.
@ewadge
@ewadge 15 күн бұрын
Your idea of battery tech is from 2012, particularly the Nissan Leaf and cars that did not have proper battery management systems. There are millions of EVs on the roads nowadays and the data is in. On average batteries will degrade about 5% in the first year and between 1% and 2% every year going forward. My 2017 BMW i3 with 90,000 km still has pretty much the same range it had when new. You don’t have to believe me as it something easily verified. There are hundreds of thousands of EVs produced which were made in 2016, 2017 and 2018 still being driven, still showing battery health over 90% and with happy owners. Don’t believe the nonsense.
@JamesAtwell-rx4hc
@JamesAtwell-rx4hc 14 күн бұрын
Poor resale, okay, but so too is every car’s depreciation. Battery depletion as you describe, not in my experience. Not even close. I have a 2019 Kia niro ev. 60k miles. I live in a cold winter climate (Chicago) and my 5 year average miles per kw is 4.1. We still get over 5 miles per kw around town in good weather. I’d love to buy another ev, but just put my first set of new tires (55k on oem tires) and the car is paid off and costs so little run (95%+ charging is level 2 at home). I’d love to hear what your personal experience is given that mine is so dang good. #neverdivingiceagain
@markbennett6658
@markbennett6658 14 күн бұрын
Don’t resell it then use the car and get your money’s worth or buy one secondhand that’s already had the big depreciation hit. That’s not an exclusive EV problem either.

@JamesAtwell-rx4hc sorry but my car is just not the same it was when new. I drove maybe 12 miles today starting at 60 percent and ended up losing 10 percent, temp was 6 degrees . Average speed was 40mph. The only reason I drive an EV is coz they are cheap to run but range wise I would never take it for a long drive that's more than 100 miles in winter simply because I know its never making it back without a re charge which btw are still rubbish and over priced in the UK. I genuinely believe EVs need to go through many iterations before it can give 400 miles on a full charge without any range anxiety.
