I’ve now watched the whole video. Just, wow, really. It’s interesting that in EVs that the old brand snobbery just makes no sense anymore. I trust the Koreans to come up with cars that just work and do it well. Nearly all reviewers of this car are saying the same thing. They are totally blown away by this machine. Brian, fantastic work & after watching your review I decided to pull the trigger so I cancelled my Polestar 4 order and picked up one of these. I’ve had the car for 10 days now & have to say it is spectacular. I came from a Tesla model 3 & the N is better in every single way. Not even on the same playing field. Only annoying things are the speed limit warnings & lane keep assist but you can setup the star shortcut button on the steering wheel to take you directly to these settings & turn them off every drive. One other thing I hope is Hyundai gives us more downloadable engine sounds in the future as I feel it could do with much beefier sounds. Just a heads up, with mixed driving over the last 10 days I’m averaging 3.0 m/kwh.

Thank you very much for your kind comment, and of course, for watching in the first place! I’m glad you enjoyed the review, and congratulations on your purchase! I have driven the Polestar 4 (but I’m under embargo on my thoughts on how it drives). I agree on the annoying things, but at least you can set up the shortcuts. What colour did you go for?

@@AutoEV I got the performance blue gloss. Love the colour & better for me personally as I’m not very good at looking after paintwork which I believe matte paint would have required. You mentioned that you were soon due to review the Polestar 4 & I can understand you probably can’t say too much about it yet but would it be too pushy to ask you, given the choice, which one would you buy out of the 4 & the N?

Whilst i'm not a fan of the car or the original its built upon, I think if they have have nailed the cornering then other EV's will have to follow and for me, cornering in EV's is like a barge due to the weight. A lot of the safety systems such as lane keep assist, speed limit warning and so forth default on, so that’s what the noises were. You can turn them off, but the always default to on every time you start the car. Unfortunately I didn’t have long with the car, and so with all the stopping to change cameras and such like, it just took too long to keep turning them off. So that’s what you were hearing. Annoying, but all new cars have it. Regarding price, you have to remember a standard Ioniq 5 Premium is over £50k, so this isn’t much more for so much more car. These aren’t small hatchbacks, and like I said, one of its main rivals, the Mustang Mach E GT is £75k…… Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

@@AutoEV which brings me to my main cringe about the so called ' 5 star ratings'. These things are supposed to aid safety, but just about everyone on KZbin just wants to turn the bloody things off! I have been driving for about 60 years and some how, by a miracle it seems I have never had an accident. Now we are no longer capable of driving without these aids. I agree some safety systems are useful and handy, but surely some of them should interrupt only when there is a real problem, like if you were heading strait towards a car coming in the opposite direction, here in NZ this seems to be main cause of most really deadly collisions.

I test drove a 5N and loved it, but in response to the usual put down of Tesla maybe a drive in a 2024 Model Y Performance might help or the current Model 3 Performance. For context I have a 2023 MY Long Range (which benefited from the improved suspension) and have recently driven a 2024 MY Performance. It was more supple, felt more solid and can deliver blistering performance with an energy efficiency the 5N can't match. I’m Not saying it is better than the 5N as that’s clearly very special but saying a Model Y Performance can't be compared to a 5N isn't objective in my view.

All the benefits of an EV but all the fun of a hot hatch. This is the dawn of a new age of performance car, trust me! I’m off to see another next week that I feel could also be a bit of a cracker……

20mm. My error.

Can't sit 200mm lower than standard car... that would be around 8" lower. 20mm I think.😊

My error. It is 20mm. Apologies for my mistake.

At least MG is the first to make an EV roadster and sell it, unlike Tesla

The best that nobody can afford! I’ll keep my 60 mph in 3.7 secs that’s less than half the price of the Ioniq 5 N.
@AutoEV2 ай бұрын
It’s not just the speed though. And that’s the point. Plenty of EVs are fast 0-60, but this is way more than that. This changes how we will see electric cars and how they engage with a driver.
@Coach_A222 ай бұрын
@@AutoEV Understood, but if few can afford them, there won’t be much driver engagement! I personally am not a fan of raging horsepower noise, but that’s just me. Other EVs are affordable, and people buy them. I guess if everyone could afford Ferraris, Lambos, and McLaren’s, they’d be out on the road en masse. Same for this vehicle and the likes upwards of $65K. Times are hard for many right now, driver engagement is probably not at the top of the list.
@AutoEV2 ай бұрын
No that’s a fair point. But we can’t ignore how good a car is irrespective of its price. It isn’t a car designed for the masses anyway, with more people looking for a spacious, efficient and affordable EV. But there are good examples of those that we praise too. I’m just making the point that this car is the very pinnacle of an EV for me as a driver. I can’t afford one, but that doesn’t stop me loving it for what it is.

@@AutoEV I get it. I love tech, advancements in engineering, but can’t afford the things I really think are exciting and innovative. I just believe that things, like this vehicle, are over priced. I’m not a businessman, but I think a lower price point would sell more vehicles, thus increasing demand, thus increasing profits. With a starting prohibitive price point, the demand will not be high. Maybe old school economics. I do like your enthusiasm!!!

Are you sure it's 200mm lower? That's nearly 8 inches...

I meant 20mm. Apologies, my error.

Nice review! The Ioniq 5 N seems great. However, if I factor in depreciation, a one or two year old Taycan GTS Sport Turismo seems to be the wiser choice, if it has to be an EV. You could also get a used E63S with low mileage for the same amount. Right now, for me at least, the Ioniq 5 N is priced too high. You did mention the Taycan as a rival to the Ioniq 5 N. Which one would you go for? Used Taycan or new Ioniq 5 N?
@XENONEZZ26 ай бұрын
I wouldn't be embarrassed driving the Taycan.....🤭
@AutoEV6 ай бұрын
I love the Taycan, especially with the extra practicality of the Sport/Cross Turismo. But it’s the same question as would you buy a new Golf R or a used Cayman or 911. You’ll buy the one that suits your needs best. This is a much more focussed driver’s car. The Taycan does the GT stuff well. All EVs are not the same. Just like ICE cars have different purposes. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

It's a bit of shame that in the 12 minutes dedicated to "Performance & Handling" there is so little dedicated to the latter. Surely, if you're going to convert so-called Petrol Heads (yawn) to a performance EV you need to speak about turn in, grip, exit speed, steering feel, balance on the throttle, pitch, adjustability etc etc. Yet all we get is a lot of hyperbole of how this car is "a line in the sand" moment - without the substance. I think that's a bummer, not least because the car actually does have a lot to offer in all those facets (yes, I've driven one). It's been kind of undersold here, in many ways - somewhat ironically.

I do take your point, but there is only so much I can do on public roads with the small amount of time that I had the car. But point taken.
