That's called the Atkinson cycle, when you close the intake valves early. It effectively changes the relative length of the intake and power strokes. Having a longer power stroke than intake stroke allows you to extract a larger percent of available power from the intake charge. It's been around for a long time.

I would have liked to hear from the engine guy. How is off-the-line acceleration in the new A4? The 2015 A4 claimed a 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds, but actually took 7.1 seconds to get there (unless you were traveling down a steep hill with a brisk tailwind with the gas tank nearly empty and an 8 stone driver). I would spring for the S4 over the A4 because the V6 engine blows away BMW and Mercedes.

Interior is very good, exterior is.... almost unchanged. They basically did the same thing for R8, change only little bits and make it look worse.Basically Audi had made the bet that they are going to appeal to its buyers' sophistication, that people will buy this car with their heads after they take a test drive and sit in the car and feel how nice it is.But for people buying car with their hearts, I don't see anything that's better than the 3 series and C class.

The exterior does not look any better then previous generations which is a major negative, since this design will stay for another 5 years. The positives, the lighter weight, better feedback in steering, greater technology in infotainment system, improved interior. Im still pretty happy with my 5 year old A4, might wait until the second generation of this model arrives ar the s4.

Stealth Sportback Refreshing to hear someone say it as the journos seem stuck in "emperor's new clothes syndrome" being unwilling or unable to be the first to say. "you know what, this isn't all that". In recent months I have driven two 3 series lease cars and I really must say I agree with you, some of the plastics were poor, the cabins were uninspiring; it handled ok but no different from most any modern saloon. The second one, a 320d was quite numb in the steering feel, not sure if this is the electro mechanical system finding its way into most BMW's now but it neither cars made me feel special. I test drove an A7 BiTurbo most recently and it made me want to buy one!

I only managed to stomach half of it. All new so called luxury saloons always have some hype about how this is a m3 killer etc... but yet, the 3 series is still sitting up there. BMW has had adaptive cruise control for a while. MSport models already have adaptive suspension and all 3 series have eco, comfort and sport modes. Audi have best in class for noise reduction because they moved a wimg mirror :) I drove to London last week and whilst passing York, my mpg was 71.1mpg with 4 passengers in a 2.0 litre twin powered turbo saloon. I think Audi have some way to go yet.

Like Mercedes and BMW, versions of the technology would have been available as a result of the high end use on A8 and to a lesser degree A6/A7/Q7. Of course there is a trickle down process accompanied by refinements in the tech and some additional features as a result of what was learned from the execution on the top of the range vehicles, Since I am purchasing in the sector at the latter in of the year, I want to know about the technology that is finding its way into the Mid range cars. As far as the shape is concerned, yes it could have been a radical statement but why would they or for that matter BMW change a successful evolutionary format. Most people like the familiar but improved appearance that both manufacturers espouse, this way the car ages well, something that the XE Jag will not do, just look at the way the X and the XF have dated! Audi have on this occasion gone for technological change i.e. Powertrain, Suspension, Interior, Driver focus. I don't think the buyer will be short changed by this car, if early indications are correct, the B9 will bring big improvements over the B8 and could well be class leading in engine performance, ride, comfort and handling. No doubt the car will be hugely successful for Audi and share dominance with BMW 3 in this compact executive sector. For me the A4 Quattro Avant TDI Ultra will be a strong contender for my money but I will be driving a few and checking residual values etc. against the competition before making a decision. Not sure what you meant by sticking to the premium brands, Audi is a premium brand....

Many are complaining the design has stayed the same for the last couple of years. Honestly, maybe its just me, but I love it! Aggressive, yet calm-looking, sporty, yet looking luxurious. That instrument panel is insane! I have the 2015 A4, bought on January, and I'm absolutely in love with it. I gotta mention the great treatment that Audi gives to owners, inviting us to great parties when they have a new product (last party was for the TT launch). My conclusion after watching this, if you were to buy a new Audi, you NEED to get out from under it even more so than the previous gens. The technology in cars is getting out of control. Thousands of dollars in repairs if the dash goes out after a warranty. Most consumers don't keep their cars much longer than 4 years anymore, but for those who do, choose a Lexus, Acura etc..something that is reliable. This is coming from someone who owns a B8 S4.

El A4 siempre ah sido mejor que el serie 3.

This is not a review, but a preview. Is he very small or are the doors just realy big, it seems like it is not possible for him to rest his arms on the door. This car must be an designers nightmare. One chief telling you not to change too much and a other one tells you he want to see significant changes.

the new A4 looks horrible. no match for the merc, bmw and jag and that screen inside... even worse the mercedes's i-pad. no for me audi is a low cost car with a premium price tag

am i the only one that thinks AUDI needs a completely new design?? i mean come on they have been recycling their design over and over again same as BMW just change the bloody design already
