Great video. Just a note, "mayonnaise oil" can just be that the car has been used for short journeys, the oil never heats up enough to evaporate any normal water vapor in the oil. My car has always had mayo oil for the sole reason I only drive I 5km a day. No other problems.
@hectorheath97428 жыл бұрын
Very good informative video. Even mentioned the way that a new oil change turns black quickly on a diesel, something that I didn't know and caused me to question whether the dealer HAD serviced the car before I picked it up.
@wholeNwon8 жыл бұрын
Lots of good advice, obviously directed at UK shoppers. I'd add that you should remove the oil filler cap and check for the same oil/coolant "mayonnaise" indicating failed head gasket or cracked block and for carbon-crud indicating bad oil and/or infrequent changes. Have someone else start the engine from cold and check the appearance of the exhaust. White may indicate bad head gasket. Brief blue is usually valve guide seals. Continuous blue is usually due to bad rings. Don't buy it. Pulsation in the brake pedal with light application = warped rotors. If the A/C needs "gassing", it's leaking and that's a problem. Check wipers, lights, etc. Go to your bank or credit union for financing, not the dealer or anyone that the dealer recommends. Check Consumer Reports for the long-term reliability of the car. Don't buy anything that other owners are having problems with. Will you pay the dealer too much? Yes, always. You'll either know it or you won't know it. But hopefully not too much.

@justaskdad-carbuyingtipsre6767 жыл бұрын
Agreed, its best to go with the seller. Nobody can sit quiet in their own car and they will start to defend or brirng up issues and explain why its the way it is. You'll get to know the seller just from being trapped in a car with him and learn real quickly how genuine someone might be or not be.

A lot of people I know have had a number of bad cars me I have seen 9 brought 7 of them and only had lbad one I regretted buying, yes going to town on a car that your going to pay a lot of money 6 - 7 year old yes that is fine this method is perfect. But unlike 20l4 there is lots that can be done today before you even see a car, the man said about driving the car without the seller, these days because of new tax laws that the car is no longer taxed when it is sold to another, that is including cars sols to a dealer so how can they take you for a test drive? Easy they can put their trade plates on which the law says they can do if they are taking the car for repairs, test or test drive to sell the car, the law states only the dealership that as the trade plates are allowed to used them so without a member of the garage in the car it can be taken and you fined by the police. He did all he thought it would be and even took it to the Audi dealer and the fault was never found, he paid cheap for it so it happens to the best of us. But like I said 80% of your decision these days can be made before you see the car, I will list my method of buying a used car, unlike this man I am not bothered over slight imperfection if the price is right for the motor, 90% of used cars sold have been in a small bump and had body work done so to buy a car without some minor repair your not going to find one, the last car I got had the side door mended and window never went up and down but it was a £l,000 below the book value. Anyway lets get into my steps and whay I have had 95% success lof getting value for money, I will do this in steps. Step l: Looking for a car, Look on the sites where you are looking for a car, put in what sort of car you want. When you see something you like , read the pecifics as they usually a small history, if after reading the information you like what you read, next step. Step 2: Contacting the seller, I usually do this by email as its the easiest way to get as much information as possible and negotiating , before seeing the car you want to get to know everything about the car, if dealer doesn't contact you then it is usually because your asking to many questions and something is wrong. If you can't see reg number ask for it, there is a lot you are going to find out on the reg nimber, pay for a full check, MOT history and how long it is MOT for, if car is under month I ask the dealer if they are willing to get a full test, usually have a little difficulty here but they do eventually agree if they want to sell the car. The last car I asked them to get a full MOT for wanted a commitement for me to buy, I said no never commit yourself before seeing the car, it was 20 minutes he rang me and ask if he did I would defently go and see the car? I said yes, he said what he was getting from it? I said if I decide to buy car I will give him the asking price unless there is something serious. He agreed and booked it MOT and theses days you can check, it did fail on suspension spring and side light and advisory nearside tyre otherwise good. Now the next step. Step 3: Seeing the car, arrange a concenient time for your both, my dealer picked me up from the train station and took me to his Forcourt and saw car, he gave me the key and left me alone, asked him for log book as it is important to check vahicles details, checked fluids aand looked under car to see for any oil leeks, everything looked good very little rar and rear to seats, steering wheel in great conditiion. Time for test drive he came with us but wasn't obstructed, ask if there was a bypass and there was, took it down bypass it drove locvely, after my 30 minute test drive went back to forcourt opened bonnet checked fluid again and looked under car, everything looked good no need to nogotiate as we did that in first step. Next step. Step 4: Buying the car. Never do this outside go into the office, first thing get insurance swapped over even if you was insured third party to drive it with the dealer the car is now becoming yours, good new once you swap insurance you are usually insured to drive your old car as well for l4 days at no extra cost, makes it easier if you don't part exchange car so you can sell yours. The dealer will tax car for you online and make sure you get a receipt and paperwork and your off. Like I said out of 9 cars I viewed in my driving life I brought 7 and only ever had l regrete, so yes my method is 95% effective, only ever had one seller to give up at communications stage and that is when I asked for a full MOT. done, the good thing about this it brings another in the sale and if there is any dangerous faults and dealer isn't willing to do anything then the test station if they have given a incorrect test wont want you going to DVLA and risking their test licence and you know the car is safe, if your driving home and you get stopped by the Police you are responsible for the safety of the car your driving, if they find any dangerous parts in car show them the full test it changes everything as car should be fully road worthy after a test. There is 28 days for any safety measure with car and 3 month for serious corrosion in a new test. It is better then lowering the price forvthe car.

I don’t have a car yet. But this question is too vague and without knowing your specific circumstances, hard to answer. @@Saif-xk1qm 75k is a good amount of mileage for its age. And 1L is small, so it will be cheaper to insure. Manual also makes the car price cheaper too. @@Saif-xk1qm typically from what I know based on friends of my age between 18-24 insurance even for cheaper small engine cars can easily be around 2k .
