I always use two low profile jacks with wood planks on end of the transmission and the middle with a temporary strap to hold it in place.

The rear case would have to come off the trans to do it. It's not hard, but I wasn't going to have enough time to re-seal the trans, wait for the seal to cure, then fill it with fluid, then drive to the track.
