BMW M Carbon Bucket Seats Pros & Cons If You Should Order Them Or Not. After owning my 2023 BMW G80 M3 for 6 months I highlight critical; areas, dimensions and facts of owning and living with BMW M Carbon Buckets on a daily basis. I do still love these seats but they are far from perfect in regards to design and materials used as this new video will highlight and show in detail. For anyone considering these BMW M Carbon Buckets please do yourself a favor and measure your body and watch this video to see if you fall withing the confines of living with such a seat in your car. Also consider your passengers and anyone who may be taken along for a drive, child, wife, elder family members and even your dog.

the ball busters you refer to are for track use. You can take the carbon piece off and attach your belt through the top and bottom of your seat

In theory you can, in fact there are 2 screws holding the piece, and by removing the carbon piece you still need to drill a hole for your seatbelt because it is just plastic behind it. Kinda have to trash the seats for that usecase.

From what I've read the ball-supports in the middle of the seat is actually there for a 5-point harness, not wow-factor. I do think they look great regardless of their purpose, though!

Great video! Thanks for walking us through it. I have a G83 M4 convertible with these seats. One thing I realized with this car after 15k km is that the driving position is canted in towards the center of the car. That’s why you can’t reach the dead pedal! Once I realized this the numbness in my left shoulder went away 😂

You called me out exactly, my wife even gave me the side eye when you said “if you’re muscular, or over 200lbs, this isn’t the seat for you no matter what they tell you” Is when I knew…Yeap, the look isn’t worth the discomfort. I have lived with the carbon bucket seats for 2 1/2 years now. I think they are super comnfortable and will spec them again when my lease is up next year. I'm only 5'10 172 so I fit nicely.

Good vid and wil be a big help to those with M's still on order. I have to agree. I'm 5'10"/42 jacket and I'm in the seat just right. Any larger frame might be a problem. I think the center "buster" was really part of the design idea for a race harness, but I could be wrong. Main deal is that the CF is the total aesthetic needed for the interior. The standard seats are bulky looking for the interior size, but still nicely designed. Also have the Kylami Orange.I recommend bolster protectors to help prevent dye transferring from your clothing (you can toss and replace them for about 2 Benjamin's) and use a good sealant to help with cleaning the seats. I grab the left side of the wheel with my right hand and use my left arm applied against the b-pillar to get out. Still sort of a pain unless you can open the door fully to swing out your legs. Main thing for me other than the aesthetics is that when you hit the fast pedal you get sucked into the seat and you're not moving anywhere.

Thanks for the in-depth review. Looking to daily the g80 long term, so I will probably go with the standard seats for comfort and practicality for daily driving. If only there was a standard seat with carbon seatback upgrade that would be ideal haha

I hate the finish on back of standard seats myself but they do sell carbon fiber overlays via aftermarket check out IND and other sites they look awesome

First of all, great video! My 2024 g80 is in build status 112 right now, this video helped me make my decision. I am going with the regular seats so I can get cooled option as well. If these had cooled option I would be all in and just switch to black from kyalami orange.

I keep going back and forth with this car. I still have my QV and I have a current allocation on a G80 M3 build. I have sat in the carbons before. I'm 5'11" and weigh 180 and a 43" chest. I would be all in on the seats in my 20s. I agree with you on ingress and egress with the thigh bolster. I found the seats to be too restrictive for my build as a daily. However, I am still debating about adding the seats for resale and aesthetics. On the other hand, I could skip the carbon buckets and go with and individual color. Thanks for the vid!

Based on your size youll fit in these just fine but try to test drive both thats what I did the standard seats made my bottom slide badly and it annoyed me

thanks for this review. as someone thats 5'11, 220 lbs, and into bodybuilding, i'm glad I saw this. I definitely would not fit in this , or it would fit very tight and be extremely uncomfortable. its a bummer that I can't get the carbon pieces without this seat being included.

Im thinner and these seats forced me to sell the M3 few months ago it was absolutely torture getting in out multiple times a day. Get comfort seats and i think a company makes carbon overlay covers for them check IND, R44 or Autotechnik

The best advice I ever heard was to only get the bucket seats if you plan on going on a track. If you'll daily the car especially as your only car, Bad Idea. The sport seats are enough if you're not driving the car at its limits.

not needed and with a manual trans it is an awful design as the third pedal forced your thigh into the rigid side bolster, these seats were the main reason I sold my G80 i could not take them anymore daily

Buckets are 22lbs lighter per official BMW videos when the G8x was launched, small savings.
